Refugees: How We Helped! (Pasqua South Oral Health Clinic)

After sending countless predeterminations and countless appeal letters and still receiving the same "denial of dental ser-vices" from the Interim Federal Health Program, our office was starting to get discouraged. How are we supposed to help these Syrian refugees who have been welcomed into our city, yet were being treated as second class citizens? There were so many teeth needing to be filled or pulled but the government was approving the VERY bare minimum, if anything at all. On Janu-ary 28, 2017 our office held a "Refugee Dental Day" for our Syrian Refugee patients. We completed approximately $15,000 worth of dental treatment, provided them lunch and in return, received many very happy, healthy looking smiles. It was an eye opening day, to think that something we do every day, drill, fill, pull, clean and something a lot of us take for granted meant so much to these new Canadians. That is how we helped! Submitted by Karly Edwards, RDA

NOTE: IF YOUR OFFICE HAS A STORY TO TELL, SDAA IS HAPPY TO SHARE IT. JUST EMAIL US!

Regulatory Update

As of mid-February we have 90 RDA’s who have lapsed their licence. Some are on maternity leave (congratulations), some have retired (congratulations), a few have left the province (best wishes), and others are missing in action (we hope they’re okay!). To fulfill our public responsibility, the names of all Saskatchewan Registered Dental Assistants along with their practice status are listed on the SDAA website in the ‘About Us’ section.

The practice permits and receipts have been mailed to members having completed their renewal and if you have not received yours please contact the SDAA office. Receipts, additional copies of your practice permit and professional development reports can be printed from your member portal. If you need your 2016 receipt for income tax, log in and print it!

SDAA Name Tags

As a sign of your professionalism and courtesy to your patients we recommend all profession-als employed in an oral health facility wear a name tag. SDAA name tags can now be ordered online through your member portal for $20 each. Simply login to your member portal, click on the ‘Products’ tab under ‘Member Menu’ and follow the prompts to the end and generate an invoice. Use your personal online banking site to pay for your new name tag.

Password Reset

Many of you have called the office because you have forgotten your password to log in to the member portal. While we always welcome your call, there is an easier way. Just below the member login there is an important message... ‘forgot your password, click here’ prompt. Please use your email address to recover the password (your username does not work). If it does not come to your email address within a few minutes it could mean that we have an incorrect email address for you. In that case you will need to call the SDAA office and we will be pleased to update your email address.

Tooth Fairy Kits

SDAA recently purchased 50 tooth fairy kits for all dental assistants, dental therapists, and dental hygienists employed in public health…… It was great! Registered Dental Assistants in Saskatchewan are doing great things! We have a few additional kits in the SDAA office and they will be gifted to the RDA’s who continually offer oral health presentations to public groups.
