Due Dates:

Dec. 18- 5 pts.

Description
AR is a school-wide reading program that encourages students to read independently at home. After
students finish reading the novel, they take a quiz on the book. In the eighth grade, the AR point goal is
20 points for each semester.
Students must obtain approvals for their book from both the parent and the teacher before starting the
book and taking the quiz. You child has an Accelerated Reading Record and needs to be filled out with
each book
Note: Students are to read AR books (books outside of the required curriculum) during Silent Sustained
Reading Fridays.
Optional: Students who earn more than the 20 required points may transfer their extra points to their
learning points. A maximum transfer of 10 points will be allowed.
AR has four components this year, which will be part of their AR grade:
1. Accelerated Reading Record- Your child fills out with each book read.
2. Reading Log- Your child will record their DAILY reading AND write a 2-3 sentence summary
about what they read that day. The Reading Logs also require a daily parent signature. Reading
logs will be checked on Fridays and collected every other Friday. If the reading log is not
completed daily it will be a missing assignment.
3. AR Notecard – With EVERY book read, your child is to fill it out while reading. It has them write
down Character, Setting, Problem and Steps to Solve. They may use there notecards while they
take the quiz. It is also part of their overall AR grade. They must have the notecard filled out
before
4. AR Quiz- they must read a book in their AR reading range and take an AR Quiz. The 10pts
required for the semester will come for their AR Quiz points.
