1. VISA ADVICE
a) Due to the short time frames, and to allow for eventualities, it is essential that you commence the visa application
as soon as possible. The China Application Visa Service Centre recommends applying at least 1 month in advance
depending on the category of visa. For speed and convenience, ABF encourages participants to apply for an L category
Tourist Visa with minimum 15 day duration and a single entry.
As of the date of writing, the minimum requirement to apply for a valid L Visa for China is:
- An original passport with at least six (6) months of validity remaining before expiry and at least one blank visa page
- A photocopy of the passport’s data page and photo page (if separate to the data page)
Supporting Documents:
- A detailed itinerary covering round trip air ticket booking record, proof of hotel reservation, travel agenda and major
dates, planned entry and exit dates
- An invitation letter and/or letter of support from a Chinese party (see below)
All foreign citizens must have a visa and a passport with a minimum six month validity to enter China. If you already have
a Chinese visa, please check its validity. If the visa has expired or the number of entries is insufficient to enter China, you
will need to apply for a new visa.
b) Australian Business Forum agrees to help participants obtain an Invitation Letter from The Organising Committee of
China International Fair for Investment & Trade on behalf of participants. In no way can ABF guarantee you will be issued
a China visa, even with supporting documents and invitation - the onus to arrange a valid Chinese visa lies solely with
the participant.
c) Letter of Invitation
To apply for a visa for China you will need to obtain a Letter of Invitation from the CIFIT Organising Committee. The letter
will bear the official seal of the CIFIT Organising Committee and details your personal details, entry and exit dates, a brief
itinerary and your objectives in China. This is an essential document and ABF urges participants to begin arrangements
at least one week in advance before applying for the visa.
ABF will assist participants in securing the Letter of Invitation. Participants must provide ABF with the following:
- Scan of passport identification page, clearly showing full name, date of birth, sex, nationality and passport number
- Company name and position title
- Entry and exit dates to and from China
ABF will forward this information to the CIFIT Organising Committee to issue a digital Letter of Invitation, and send this
digital copy to participants as soon as it is received. Please print the Letter of Invitation and present it when applying
for your visa.

ABF urges participant to confirm their travel arrangements as soon as possible. Expect delays and long queues.
Bribery of foreign public officials is a crime. Australian individuals and companies can be prosecuted in Australia for

countries may apply to them including different laws around facilitation payments.
For more information, including in relation to facilitation payments, please visit the Attorney General’s Department on
Foreign Bribery. http://www.ag.gov.au/CrimeAndCorruption/Foreignbribery/Pages/default.aspx

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and direct access to Gmail and Google Products. Participants who wish to maintain contact
to these websites may consider using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service privately arranged or purchased online.
Use of VPN services does not guarantee access to blocked websites. ABF encourages participants to ensure they have
sufficient to vital websites, those who rely on access to blocked websites should make necessary arrangements in
anticipation of restricted access. To check if a website is restricted in China please check www.blockedinchina.net
before travel.
All Australians travelling overseas, whether for tourism or business, or for short or long stays,
are encouraged to register with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) before
travel. The registration information you provide will help DFAT to find you in an emergency –
whether a natural disaster, civil disturbance or a family emergency. It may also be used to pass
on other information to you such as new travel advisories, notice of elections and information
on other matters relevant to travellers and expatriates.
ABF encourages Australian citizen participants to register online at www.orao.dfat.gov.au

matching mechanisms will be performed by the relevant Fujian Government and CIFIT organising committees. For
further details please consult the Business Matching Facilitation Terms & Conditions on the ABF website.

to resolve common difficulties for Australian visitors to China.
Load and Go China is a prepaid, reloadable UnionPay payment card that functions
as a debit and credit card. Unlike MasterCard and Visa, Load & Go China UnionPay
is accepted at 100% of Chinese ATMs and can be used securely for POS and cash
withdrawals. Load & Go conveniently stores both AUD and CNY and can convert AUD into CNY at no cost with a fixed
exchange rate.

13. ABOUT AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS FORUM
12. EVENT PASS
Australian Business Forum (ABF) is an independent non-political organisation that facilitates Australian business
looking to engage with China. ABF does this through identifying and understanding knowledge gaps and facilitating
dialogue, business and partnerships.
Our initiatives focus primarily on the Small and Medium enterprise sector and their issues and connection with the
Chinese business community. This connection is enabled via our network of partners across business, government,
industry, academia and the wider Australian and Chinese community.
ABF has developed a range of SME-focused events which are supported by our media platform and corporate services.
Our goal is to bring together the best and brightest minds to provide input and advice. These include Australian and
international leaders, dynamic C-level executives from a range of the top-1000 companies, state and federal ministers,
leading international academics, senior government officials, economists and other community leaders.
ABF’s main services include:
• ABF Events: Australia-China BusinessWeek, China Digital Conference, China Lunch Club and regular networking
functions
• ABF Media Platforms: Magazine, digital hub, on-demand channel
• ABF China inbound & outbound business delegations and business matching services

Currency
The Chinese currency is officially known as Renminbi (RMB) and is calculated in yuan (commonly called ‘kuai’). One yuan
is divided into 10 jiao (also known as mao). The current exchange rate stands at approximately 4.5 yuan to an Australian
dollar as at August 2015. For up-to-date currency conversions, consult with your preferred banks.
Climate
This mission will take place at the transition between Xiamen’s wet monsoon summer and the drier seasons of autumn
and winter. Temperatures average a minimum of 24 Celsius and a maximum of 30 Celsius with less humidity than
preceding months. Weather can change sporadically. Forecasts for major Chinese cities can be found on BBC – Weather
Centre or World Weather Information Service.
Clothing guidelines
Participants are encouraged to pack light comfortable clothing for the seminars, site visits and intercity travel (no shorts
or thongs). The hospitality events are official functions and participants should wear smart business attire. A rain jacket
is also recommended.
Electricity and Water
China’s electricity supply is 220 volts, 60 Hz; 1, 3, phases, 2, 4 wires. Some hotels also have 110 volt connection points.
Connections can be angled three-prong, flat two-pin, or round three-prong. Therefore, it is recommended that you carry
an international adapter.
Tap water is not drinkable. Drink only bottled or boiled water. Tea is often provided free in hotels.
Q: Do I have to pay to join the mission?
A: Yes. Travel, accommodation and personal expenses are to be covered by the individual participants. Program
inclusions such as forums, luncheons and breakfast are included in the participant registration fee. Participants will
need to book their own flight and hotels.
Q: Can ABF provide me with individual business matching during the event/in the city?
A: ABF has arranged three separate supported business matching events with the CIFIT organising committee and the
Fujian Department of Commerce, with all business matching mechanisms organised by those parties and ABF acting as
a facilitator. Given the length of time needed to adequately match individual companies outside of these events, ABF
regrettably will be unable to provide tailored business matching on this ACBW 2015 China Mission
Q: Will I have my own personal interpreter during the mission?
A: No. Translation will be provided for the group at official events (seminar and official lunch or dinner functions). At
business matching events participants can request a volunteer interpreter by filling out the appropriate field. ABF will
provide staff at networking functions to facilitate interactions. ABF can also introduce participants to our preferred
suppliers for translating and interpreting services.
Q: Can Chinese representatives of Australian companies (staff based in China) apply to join the mission?
A: Yes, Chinese representatives of Australian companies may also join the mission by additional registration and
payment only.
Q: Can I invite my business and government contacts to the official hospitality functions?
A: Yes, by additional registration and payment only.
14. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
13
Q: Can my spouse or family join the mission?
A: Yes. Partners and spouses are encouraged to accompany participants to ACBW, with additional costs and registrations
borne by the participant.
Q: If my spouse or family travels with me to the city, can ABF arrange a separate program for them or assist them
with city tours?
A: Yes, subject to confirmation.
Q: If I hire my own personal interpreter in the city, can they join the events and be included on mission group
transportation?
A: Yes, subject to ABF confirmation. Participants are responsible for payment of interpreters’ meals and activities to ABF.
Q: Is ABF responsible for applying for my Chinese travel visa?
A: No. ABF will act as an intermediary to obtain the invitation letter from the CIFIT organising committee on the
participants’ behalf, however participants are responsible for applying for and securing a Chinese visa themselves.
Q: Can I bring company brochures or samples?
A: Yes, however ABF recommends the use of Chinese language promotional materials, with samples subject to China
customs requirements.
Q Is there a subsidy that will assist me in paying for the mission?
A: There are no government subsidies for ACBW 2015. However, companies may be eligible to apply for a Export Market
Development Grant.
