Academic Excellence ProgramEverton Park State High School strives to give all students oportunities to develop to the best of their abilities in academic, social, and cultural fields.

Our Academic Excellence Program for Year 7 students provides an academically challenging curriculum that requires students to collaborate, and to think critically and creatively. These are skills that have been identified as essential for the 21st century.

Our PhilosophyStudents selected for our Academic Excellence Program will be challengedto deepen their passion for learning through inquiry. Students will work withothers who challenge them and have access to expert teachers and mentors.

Selecting the Academic Excellence Program• Does your child have a particular skill or interest? Are they highly motivated,

with high expectations of themselves?• Does your child demonstrate an ability to think? Can they communicate their

thinking effectively?• Does your child like to be challenged?

Students in the Academic Excellence class will bring a mix of talents andabilities. The common threads amongst them will be a passion for thinking, a desire for challenges to their thinking, and a capacity to challenge the thinking of others

Developing Critical and Creative Thinkers

Critical and creative thinking enriches learning. Students develop skills,behaviours and dispositions such as: reasoning, logical thought, resourcefulness, imagination and innovation. These can be applied in all learning areas of the curriculum and in their lives beyond school.

Our teachers understand how to design learning experiences in all lessons.Students will engage in learning experiences that develop valued skills forsuccess in our ever-changing world.

Select Entry Program

The Academic Excellence Program is a selective entry program that requiresstudents to sit an entrance exam, submit a student folio, and meet with ourAcademic Excellence Program team. Students participating in the program must demonstrate a commitment to the learning involved and understand the high expectations of selected students.

How to apply

To apply for this program students must:• submit an application form (see back page)• demonstrate competency through the entrance exam. Applicants will benotified of the date for the exam.

Students who show academic talent in the exam will receive a request for aninterview. This will require the student to bring a portfolio of work that includes evidence such as: school reports, achievements in their area of interest, extracurricular accomplishments, and a reference from the school principal or their teacher.
