    1. Introduction

    Thank you for choosing AC8700 CDMA2000 1X EV-DO Wireless Data Terminal (hereinafter referred to as Data Terminal) of ZTE Corporation.

    The Data Terminal equips with a standard USB interface and supports both CDMA2000 1X EV-DO and CDMA2000 1X network. In the area where there is signal, it allows you to go surfing on the Internet, send & receive short messages, and make & receive phone calls.

    The pictures in this guide are only used to demonstrate your Data Terminals functions, so they are maybe different from what you see on your Data Terminal. Please refer to your Data Terminal if they are differences.

    2. Precautions

    z Use the original accessories or those authenticated by the manufacturer. Using any unauthenticated accessories may affect the data terminals performance, violate the warranty provisions or relevant national regulations about telecom terminals, or even cause body injury.

    z Do not disassemble, modify, frequently pull/plug the antenna, stretch, rotate or bend the antenna with great force.

    z Before pulling out the data terminal, please use Windows safely removing the hardware and make sure to exit the application. Do not directly pull out the terminal to avoid the damage of data terminal or the influence on the normal operation of operating system.

    z Do not forcefully plug/pull the data terminal to avoid the damage of connector. z Do not use your data terminal near weak signal or high-precision electronic devices.

    Radio wave interference may cause misoperation of electronic devices or other problems.

    z Turn off your data terminal on airplane where its forbidden to use it. The data terminal may affect the normal operation of electronic devices, therefore please follow the relevant regulations when using your mobile phone on airplane.

    z Turn off your data terminal in hospital where its forbidden to use it. The data terminal may affect the normal operation of medical apparatus, therefore please follow the relevant regulations when using your mobile phone in hospital.

    z Please do not use the data terminal near flammable or explosive materials, otherwise it might cause failure or fire.

    z Keep your data terminal away from water. This may cause overheating or failure if water or any other kind of liquid enters your mobile phone. Please do not use your data terminal near high temperature, damp or dusty place.

    z Keep your data terminal away from children to avoid shock, plunge or impact. It may cause body injury when the data terminal is used as a toy.

    3. Appearance

    3.1 Introduction

    3.2 Insert R-UIM Card

    Note:

    If your data terminal doesnt need R-UIM card, please skip this section.. 1. Pull out the tap 2. Take out the R-UIM card cover in the direction indicated by the arrow

    3. Insert R-UIM card as below figure

    4. Push back R-UIM card cover in the direction indicated by the arrow.

    3.3 Operation Guide of Data Cable Generally, the Data Terminal could be directly connected with USB port. You could also connect the Data Terminal with PC by using the accompanying data cable, as shown in the following figure. Connect Interface with Data Terminal, and interface with PC's USB port. If the power supply from USB port is insufficient, connect both interface and with USB port together.

    4. Install and Uninstall

    4.1 System Requirements:

    The Data Terminal supports the following operating system:

    Windows 2000 Windows XP Windows Vista

    PC minimum configurations:

    CPU Pentium-II/233MHz

    USB interface 2.0 (USB1.0 and 1.1 compatible) Optical Drive CD-ROM (for installation only)

    Memory 64 MB

    Disk Space 50 MB (used for installation of application)

    Note:

    To remove the Data Terminal from your computer, please click the button Safely Remove Hardware to remove the Data Terminal.

    4.2 Installation Guide Take Windows XP for example. Under other operating systems, please refer to the installation under Windows XP.

    Note:

    Do not insert the Data Terminal before installation.

    4.2.1 Install

    1. Find setup.exe firstly in the Data Terminal CD-ROM, double-click it to display the Welcome picture, and then click Next;

    2. Select the location where you want the program to be installed, and then click Next;

    3. Select Start Menu folder, and then click Next;

    4. When you see the window below, please click Install;

    5. Please wait for installation;

    6. Please insert the Data Terminal into USB interface if the system prompts you to insert the hardware; (If it has been inserted, please unplug it and insert again.)

    7. The system shall find the new hardware and install the driver automatically. Just wait a minute;

    8. The driver is installed successfully. Pleas click OK;

    9. Click Finish to close the last screen of the wizard. Now you can start the application for data terminal.

    4.2.2 Uninstall

    1. Select Start -> All Programs -> ZTE Wireless Terminal -> Uninstall ZTE Wireless Terminal. Click Uninstall ZTE Wireless Terminal, and you will be asked if you want to remove the program. Click Yes.

    2. Please wait.

    3. Click OK when un-installation is completed.

    4.3 Manually Install If the data terminal doesn't work through other USB ports after the driver is installed successfully through a USB port, you could manually install the driver in the following method. Please make sure to quit other applications during the installation.

    4.3.1 Windows 2000

    Insert the data terminal to another port, and the system will find new hardware and automatically install the driver. When the following prompt appears, click Yes. Now you can start the application for data terminal.

    5. Run the Application After the application is installed successfully, the application icon will appear on your desktop. Double-click this icon or select from Start -> Programs ->ZTE Wireless Terminal -> ZTE Wireless Terminal. Run the application to display the user interface.

    The following alerts might show on the application interface of Data Terminal. z Data Terminal is locked, please input security codeif you have set the password. z Please input PIN codeif you have set PIN password.

    Note:

    R-UIM card will be locked if you enter wrong PIN code three times. Then you need PUK code to unlock R-UIM card. The PIN code may be provided to you together with R-UIM card. If not, contact your network service provider. If your data terminal does not need R-UIM card, please skip the contents regarding R-UIM card.

    Descriptions of icons on the status bar:

    EV-DO indication Call indication

    1X indication Missed call indication

    Signal strength indication. The more bars there are, the stronger signals are.

    Unread message indication

    CDMA network unavailable Inbox full indication

    Connection indication No R-UIM card inserted indication

    Sleep indication R-UIM card inserted indication

    Roaming indication

    Descriptions of shortcuts on main interface (Press to display other icons):

    The description includes all status information. The specific status information displayed on the interface depends on the service which is currently used. Some features like Voice Call, Call History, SMS and Phone Book may not be supported by your Data Terminal; the corresponding icons will not appear in the main window. Please contact your provider or agent.

    Note:

    Some features like Voice Call, Call History, Short Message, and Phone Book may not

    be supported by your Data Terminal; the corresponding icons will not appear in the

    main window.

    6. Connect/Disconnect Connect

    Click icon to set the relevant parameters. For details, please refer to Chapter 12 Setting for details.

    Click icon at the left-up corner of the interface. After connecting to Internet, the current network information will appear on the

    interface. Double-click any place in the display area to view the connection drawing. Disconnect

    After connecting to Internet, click the rotating icon at the left-up corner of the interface.

    7. Connection Records Connection records save the previous relevant information including Start at, Duration and Transmit bytes, which help you know the status easily.

    By switching among List, Monthly and Statistic, you could inquire the records every time, by month or by time.

    Note:

    The relevant information contained in connection records are just for users

    reference rather than the charging basis.

    List

    View the Start at, Duration and Transmit bytes.

    z Delete Connection Records

    Click button to delete the records you have selected on the interface.

    z Clear Connection Records

    Click button to delete all the records.

    Monthly

    View the Duration and Transmit bytes by month.

    Statistics

    Input the start data and end data to view the duration and transmit bytes during this period.

    8. Voice Call (If this feature is not supported by your Data Terminal, please skip over this chapter.)

    You could perform voice call services using your Data terminal, including making calls, receiving calls and conference calls.

    Note:

    If there is an earpiece for your Data Terminal, please insert it into the socket.

    If you need use call switching, conference call, please apply from your local

    operator.

    Make calls

    You could make calls by directly dialing or pressing redial key.

    Direct dial 1. Click the numeric buttons in the right or directly input numbers from keyboard. Press

    button or Backspace to delete the input number. Press button or Esc to

    clear all inputs.

    2. Click button in the right or press Enter key to start dialing.

    Redial

    Click button in the right to dial the last outgoing call.

    Receiving calls

    Upon an incoming all, you will hear the ringtone coming out from your computer and see the incoming call number on the interface

    1. Click button in the right or press Enter key to receive the incoming call.

    2. Click button in the right or press Esc key to hang up the incoming call.

    Call switching

    During the conversation, if there is a new incoming call, the system will pop up a window, which reminds you of an incoming call. You could select to receive new incoming call.

    After answering the call, you could switch between two incoming calls. 1. Click Accept waiting call button to receive the new incoming all. In this case, the

    original call will be not be ended, but temporarily held. 2. Click Switch call button to switch between two incoming calls.

    Conference call

    Through this function, you could realize conference call function.

    To use this function, you need set Show 3 way call button during calling. Please refer to Setting/Options.

    Call the third party

    During the conversation, you could click Dial second call button, input the third party's number in the pop-up box, and then press OK button to dial the third party. In this case, the original call will not be ended but temporarily held.

    Conference call

    If the third party receives the call, click Start conference button to realize the function.

    Hang up the third party

    During the conference call, click Hangup second call to end the conference call and return to the original call.

    9. Call History (If this feature is not supported by your Data Terminal, please skip over this chapter.)

    Call history saves the relevant information such as missed calls, incoming calls, outgoing calls and call duration.

    You could perform the following operations under Missed call/incoming calls/outgoing calls interface.

    Delete selected record.

    Delete all records under current call logs (Missed call/incoming calls/outgoing calls).

    Dial the number.

    Send messages to the number.

    Save the number into phone book.

    You could perform the following operations under Call Duration interface.

    Clear the call duration.

    10. Short Message (If this feature is not supported by your Data Terminal, please skip over this chapter.)

    Write messages

    1. Select Write messages, input the message text or click to select the preset message text.

    2. Input the recipients number or click to add the recipients. You could add multiple recipients.

    3. Select the priority level.

    4. Click button to start sending.

    5. Click button to save it as draft.

    Inbox

    The received messages will be saved in the card inbox. If the card inbox is full, the system will give you an alert. Click the message in the right side of interface to view the contents of the message.

    You might select Call the senders number.

    Reply to the message.

    Forward to others.

    Save the senders number into Phone book.

    Copy the select message to other storage location.

    Copy the messages from card inbox to computer inbox.

    Delete the message.

    Delete all messages in current inbox.

    Outbox

    The sent messages and unsent but saved messages will be saved in outbox. Please refer to inbox for relevant operations.

    11. Phone Book (If this feature is not supported by your Data Terminal, please skip over this chapter.)

    The phonebook saves the contacts name, mobile phone number, home number, office number, E-mail, etc. The Phonebook could be saved in computer, network card, R-UIM card (if R-UIM card is required) or emergency number. Click the pull-down menu above the interface and select the storage location.

    You might select Search the contact by name or number.

    Dial the selected contact.

    Send messages to selected contact.

    Add a new entry. Only the name and mobile phone number can be saved in network card, R-UIM card and emergency number. If the new entry is added into the computer, the home number, office number, E-mail, and remark information could be saved besides name and mobile phone number.

    Change contact information.

    Copy the select contact to other storage location.

    Copy the current storage location to other storage location.

    Delete the contact.

    Clear all contacts.

    12. Setting

    Network z Set the network parameters (phone number, username, password), work mode, etc. z If connecting network is required when starting up the terminal, please select connect

    when startup. z Auto re-connect is selected under default status. You could remove this function

    according to the requirements. z Click Apply button to save the current settings.

    The default network setup parameters are as below. Different regions may have different network setup parameters, so please consult your local telecom operator.

    Phone: #777

    User: card

    Password: card

    If your Data Terminal does not support some following functions, please neglect relevant description.

    Options

    z URL address could be edited. After URL setting, click icon on the main interface to directly open the setting page.

    z Select the interface style and language. z If you need conference call, please select Show 3 way call button during calling. z Ask for Confirmation before deleting and Notification when SMS sent are selected

    under default status. You could remove this function according to the requirements. z Click Change Password button to lock the device. You need input password when

    running the application. The setting has nothing to do with Default button. z If your data terminal needs R-UIM card, you could click Enable Pin button. Verify Pin

    code when running the application. The setting has nothing to do with Default button. z Click Change Pin button to change the original PIN code.

    Ringtone z You could set the different ringtones for incoming call, message, call connecting, call

    ending and call waiting. Double click the option to change the ringtone. z Click Apply button to save the current setting.

    Supplementary services z Set call forwarding unconditional, call forwarding when busy, call forwarding when no

    reply, call waiting, etc. Double click the option to change the service number and forwarding number.

    z After settings, click Dial service number to send the corresponding setting request to network system.

    z Click Apply button to save the current settings. During the process of settings, click Default button and then Apply button to restore the current settings to default settings.

    13. Help

    Click button to view the help file.

    Click Help button to view the relevant help file; click Online service to enter our companys website.

    You could view the software version information under About.

    14. Connect to the Website

    Click button to directly connect the website you set. For details on the website setting,

    please refer to Chapter 12 Setting.

    15. Trouble-shooting Failures Causes Solutions

    Error occurs when running setup.exe file.

    The setup file may be damaged.

    Please download the program on our website WWW.ZTEMT.COM and reinstall it.

    Directly run the software before the Data Terminal is plugged in.

    Close the software, plug in the Data Terminal and run it again.

    Open port failed. The port is occupied by other applications, such as Hyper terminal, or the software is already run.

    Close relevant software and run the software again.

    R-UIM card is not inserted. Insert R-UIM card. R-UIM card isnt inserted properly. Sometimes the front side and back side are confused.

    Please refer to section 3.2. Properly insert R-UIM card. No R-UIM card.

    R-UIM card is damaged. Validate by using a CDMA terminal.

    Replace R-UIM card.

    Antenna is not connected to the Access Box.

    Insert the antenna into the Data Terminal.

    Out of the network service area. Make sure it is in the CDMA network service area.

    No signal indicated.

    The antenna or RF component is damaged. Replace relevant damaged parts.

    Wrong setting of parameters (Phone, User, Password)

    Correct the parameter settings. Consult your service provider for details.

    Not enough money in R-UIM card. Consult your service provider for details.

    Dialing failed.

    Network congestion or failure. Try again later. The Data Terminal is being connected. (It usually occurs when the Internet connection is immediately made after the call is dialed)

    Reconnect.

    Internet connection failure.

    Poor network signal. View signal strength indication and check if the antenna is properly inserted.

    The driver might be unable to work and the application is unable to run normally if the terminal is pulled out and plugged in again when the application is being used under Win2000 operating system (SP4).In this case, the device in device manager will be marked with yellow exclamation mark, and the system must be restarted to run normally.

    The operating system needs installing Update Roll 1 patch for Win2K SP4.
