ABSTRACT

Background: diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease with characteristic os hyperglycemia because of insulin secretion disorder, insulin work, or both of them. One of most often complications is diabetic ulcer. Diabetic ulcer is an opened wound in skin layer to inside of dermis. Diabetic ulcer occurs because of leg blood vessel obstructions and peripheral neuropathy caused by high blood sugar level and patients are not aware of having wounds. One of peripheral neuropathy causes is arteriosclerosis which is caused by increasing cholesterol level. One of arteriosclerosis causes is increasing levels of cholesterols and one of them is triglyceride.

Research Objective: the objective of this research was to find out the correlation between triglyceride level and diabetic legs of diabetes mellitus patients in Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek public hospital in Bandar Lampung in 2014.

Research Method: it was an analytic correlation research by using cross sectional approach. Subjects were 60 diabetes mellitus patients hospitalized in Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek public hospital in 2014. Triglyceride level was conducted to the patients in laboratory of clinical pathology in Dr. H. Abdul Moeleok public hospital. Data were analyzed with Spearman’s Correlation Test with significance of p ≤ 0.05.

Results: the result showed that 53.33% patients were female. Patients with triglyceride level of 205.20 mg/dl suffered diabetic ulcer. Patients with triglyceride level of 194.07 mg/dl did not experience diabetic ulcer.

Conclusion: there was no correlation between triglyceride level and diabetic ulcer case, with p = 0.029; (p ≤ 0.05) and r value = 0.355 (low correlation).
