A Compact Dual-Arm Monopole Antenna
For WLAN Applications

net'orks. As the demand &or inte"ration o& di&&erent radio modules increases$ there is a need
&or multi)and antenna systems 'ith hi"her capa)ilities and )etter per&ormance *+,. Numerous
desi"ns o& dual &reuency monopole antennas ha(e )een demonstrated$ includin" the use o& a
com)ination o& t'o parallel monopoles ecited )y a coplanar 'a(e"uide C/W# &eed line *0,$Microstrip ecited trian"ular monopole 'ith a trape1oidal slit *2,$ monopole antenna )ased
on tapered meander line "eometry *3,$ parallel line loaded monopole antenna *4, and multiple
arm monopole antennas *5,$ etc. Most o& the monopole antennas reported in the literature are
mounted a)o(e a lar"e "round plane 'hich increases the compleity o& the system. !his
paper intends to propose a compact$ li"ht 'ei"ht$ lo' cost and simple printed dual )and
planar monopole antenna &or 'ireless Local Area Net'ork WLAN# applications in IEEE

len"ths o& the monopole arms$ in 'hich the lon"er arm contri)utes &or the lo'er resonant
&reuency and the shorter arm contri)utes to the hi"her resonant &reuency. !he proposed
antenna 'as simulated usin" CS! Micro'a(e Studio$ &a)ricated on a commercially a(aila)le
7.6 mm F93 :lass Epoy su)strate and tested usin" A"ilent ;ector Net'ork Analy1er
N4027A. !he eperimental results sho' that the desi"ned antenna pro(ides ecellent
per&ormance in )oth the 0.384 :Dou)le &olded monopole antenna usin" parallel
