Teachers can look forward to a unique series of inspiring presentations on the new Piano syllabus, led by ABRSM’s Chief Examiner John Holmes, in collaboration with pianist Gary Matthewman.

At each event, John will explain how examiners use the revised ABRSM marking criteria to assess different aspects of playing, and how to get the most from the examiner’s mark form comments.

To complement this, Gary will be performing a range of pieces across all the grades, to demonstrate the vital musical ingredients which make for characterful, stylistic and communicative piano playing.

Come away with fresh ideas and practical resources that will help develop your students’ awareness and control of pitch, time, tone, shape and performance, which are the Hallmarks of distinction!Sessions will be delivered bilingually - in English and Cantonese.

Educated at King’s College, Cambridge, where he read Music, John joined ABRSM as an examiner in 1990 and in 2010 took up the post of ABRSM Chief Examiner, a role which provides leadership and direction for all ABRSM examiners in the conduct of their examining work, with responsibility for achieving and maintaining the highest standards of examining across all ABRSM exams. John gives regular presentations to support teachers, parents and candidates entering ABRSM exams worldwide.

Gary Matthewman BMus(Hons) PGDip(RCM) LTCL returns following a very popular tour in 2012. Gary studied at the Royal College of Music, and is now frmly established as one of Britain’s leading collaborative pianists. He gives recitals worldwide, works as a coach and repetiteur at the Royal College of Music, and does a wide range of work for ABRSM.
