Four “Above the Line” Truths

• Jesus died and rose again.• I died and rose again with Jesus.• I am now a new creation in Christ.• Jesus is in me and I am in Him.

“Do I really believe these truths?”

1 Corinthians 15:3-8

3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins

according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Peter,

and then to the Twelve.

Page 7: Above the line sermon 1 (english)

1 Corinthians 15:3-8

6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me

also, as to one abnormally born.

1 Corinthians 15:1-2

1 Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to

the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:11-19

11 Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that

there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even

Christ has been raised.

Page 12: Above the line sermon 1 (english)

1 Corinthians 15:11-19

14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More

than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified

about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are

not raised.

Page 13: Above the line sermon 1 (english)

1 Corinthians 15:11-19

16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen

asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more

than all men.

Hebrews 2:1-4

1 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift

away. 2 For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience

received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation?

Page 17: Above the line sermon 1 (english)

Hebrews 2:1-4

This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit

distributed according to his will.

1 Corinthians 11:27-30

27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the

cup.

Page 21: Above the line sermon 1 (english)

1 Corinthians 11:27-30

29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many among

you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

Hebrews 6:1-6

1 Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance

from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about baptisms, the laying on of

hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And God permitting, we will do so.

Page 25: Above the line sermon 1 (english)

Hebrews 6:1-6

4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have

tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, 6 if they fall away, to

be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over

again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

Let’s talk about it

• Why is it difficult to believe in something you can’t see, feel or touch?

• What is your greatest difficulty in believing that Jesus died and rose again?

• How can you prove to others that you really believe that Jesus died and rose again? How has it affected your life?
