Acting Director’s Statement
I am pleased to report that all the scheduled programscontinued and were completed for the year. Our funders deserve a special mention for their understanding of the transition we were undergoing. They were able to give support and advice where needed and we look forward to continuing our positiverelationship. These results would not have occurred without the help of dedicated staff and a large volunteer workforce. New staff who came on board this year were Kavita Singh as Volunteer Coordinator, Colleen Caldwell as Afterschool program Coordinator, and Liaquat Ali Changezi as Program DevelopmentManager. Together with our accountant Sandya Rajapakshe and Social Worker Marie-Jeanne Mozumbo, they formed an awesome team!
Many of our volunteers are international students, and their time with us has been invaluable. Not only are they helping us, they are learning new skills and gaining working experience in NZ, often going on to secure paid employment here. On 22 November 2019, ROC held a Volunteer Appreciation Night to recognise the work of 60 of our volunteers who had remained in Hamilton beyond the end of the academic year. This was an inspiring evening that set a benchmark for us to rise to in the future.
