The use of mobile devices, e.g. notebooks, increased significantly in the last years.

Personal storage devices, e.g. USB flash drives, are essential and universal business tools to

keep data portable. In 2007, worldwide more than 20 million USB flash drives were sold.

This USB memory is a major security risk. The EU Agency for European Network and Information

Security Agency (ENISA) warns against the potential misuse of USB flash drives, which threaten the

security of company data or infiltrate viruses into IT structure.

The security of data and information is used primarily to protect against hazards or threats, the

prevention of damage, and minimizing risks.

At the office or at home, the DIGITTRADE USB Security Stick USS256 guarantees

hardware-based encryption module operates independently of any software and is resistant to cold boot

Some external storage devices have security mechanisms to prevent the unauthorized access to data.

Thereby several hardware-based authentication mechanisms are used. These mechanisms allocate

sufficient protection as long as the data is accessed exclusively via the security chip.

Very often it is sufficient to remove the disk from the security enclosure to avoid the hardware based

security mechanisms.

This problem is solved with the DIGITTRADE RFID Security Hard Drive by the installation of the S.M.A.R.T. Lock Drive Lock.

The existing hardware-based authentication mechanisms are combined with the S.M.A.R.T. Lock function of the hard drive.

The S.M.A.R.T. Lock function sets an ATA password. The creation of this password follows a

specific algorithm, thereby information from the hardware-based authentication

processes is used. The ATA password is not stored at any time and therefore it cannot be

readout. Setting up the S.M.A.R.T. Lock Drive Lock, it improves data protection in external

enclosures with hardware-based security authentication mechanisms. The unauthorized

access to your data will be aggravated significantly.

bit AES encryption

The DIGITTRADE RFID Security Disk RS128 is

a secure mobile data storage, with automat-

ic hardware encryption. It protects your data

immediately, automatically and without exception.

The application is extremely simple and secure.

The stored data are encrypted according to AES

standard (128-bit). The Advanced Encryption Standard is

a symmetric encryption system. The encryption algorithm includes a

block size of 128-bit, and also a variable key length of 128, 192 or 256-bit.

This algorithm is public and available for free. In the USA, AES is approved for official

documents of the highest security level.

The RS128 uses CBC mode to encrypt the data. This encryption method avoids brute force, cold boot and USB sniffer

attacks.

By the combination of hardware-based encryption module and RFID access control this security drive works independently from

the operating system and can be used portable. The encryption module works without noticeable performance loss.
