Last fortnight has been eventful for India. One MOM (Mars Orbiter Mission) landed on MARS orbit, another MOM (Ms. Jayalalitha) landed behind BARS. Then there was our PM Modi's visit to US and it was MAM (Modi At Madison Square) and other events at US which occupied the headlines for almost a week. Modi, as soon as he returned to India he did not waste even a single day and he started “Swacch Bharath Campaign” on

ndGandhi Jayanthi day. Till now Oct 2 used to be observed as Dry day and here afterwards it will be

“Dry Clean day” (taken from Whatsapp). Our politicians and celebrities started wielding broomsticks. But what excited me most was the wielding of hockey sticks by Indian hockey players at Incheon Asian games which resulted in Gold for India after 16 years.

I grew watching India winning gold at Olympics (late 70s). Inspired by such performances I started playing hockey and represented my school. I still remember I was glued to TV (Bush black and white) watching India losing to Pakistan and 1982 Asiad and could not avoid crying that day when India lost by 1-7. After that I have been a silent spectator for the gradual slide of Indian hockey at the International level. This time when it was again clash of the Titans, I failed to impress my children about the significance of the match as they were busy watching “Gandhi” movie at my in-law's place. But when India won I did cheer and rejoiced the victory. Being a close follower and fan of Indian hockey I had my own reasons to celebrate which the new gen kids may not appreciate. Automatic qualification to play in Rio Olympics is an icing on the cake. Issues like whether they will

win or not in Olympics, whether India will regain the past glory or not should not prevent us from celebrating present victory!!!

I will put here some of the photos of the events of the last fortnight which I think are worth a second look.

Who is the person who thought rice could be steamed for food? Who is the first person to use the alphabet to write? The world has not kept notes of its own ancestors who have contributed this immensely to its progress. Do you think you can attain fame that has eluded these people?

Every three years, Rotary International's Council on Legislation meets to debate and vote on policies and ideas submitted by clubs, districts, and the RI Board. This process gives your club and district a voice in how our organization is governed.

The Council has the authority to amend RI's constitutional documents, as well as adopt resolutions. Each district sends a representative to the meeting, and every club and district may propose legislation. The scope of legislation covers everything from club attendance requirements to the qualifications of the RI president.

Clubs and districts should submit proposed legislation for the 2016 Council through the online submission form. Rotary International must receive proposed legislation, including confirmation of the district's endorsement, by 31 December 2014. This deadline is strictly enforced.

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO...To my mind more important than the Modi

bandwagon's huge US success the Oscar for courage, conviction and commitment goes to a man called John Michael D'Cunha....

He is a judge in Bangalore and he is the first judicial official in the history of our country to remove a sitting Chief Minister and an icon in her state and have her locked up. To go against Jayalalitha on her turf in a politically passionate state required immense fortitude. The man risked his life and it is a seething indictment of all our media that no one appreciates the milestone in the realm of justice that man has created.

Sir, I don't know you but I salute you. You risked your life. It is now incumbent upon the government to ensure your security and safety and that of your family. Instead of having all those black cat commandos 'protecting' third rate politicians a squad should be there ensuring that you are not a victim of harassment of any sort.

Please be safe for you are really an example to this country of a man who could easily have slipped past the risk and waffled on indefinitely.

Sir, you are a true Indian, an example of those rare individuals who comes out of nowhere and do the right thing for the right reasons. You have put yourself and your family and friends in jeopardy and it would be very sad if India did not appreciate this display of guts in a nation where political icons have total power. It took 18 years for a man like you to give the rule of law meaning.

No one knows you, no one knows your history and the way our media is organised in its priorities its spearhead will babble on about diddley but won't even notice how awesome a verdict you gave and what it must have meant to stand by the book.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Oscar goes to....John Michael d'Cunha. Give this man a standing ovation.
