This award-winning public gallery is run by East Devon District Council and is supported by the Arts Council England. THG has been recognised through The Marsh Award for Gallery Education for its exceptional learning programme of workshops and activities for the community. In addition to the galleries are a Learning Room with art & craft materials for children, a shop and a refreshments area and a new Wild Art garden. Access The gallery is fully accessible. Following the growing success of our annual selling exhibition of contemporary craft THG will once again present a new selection of South West makers alongside some gallery favourites.

Selected from an open call Present Makers 2017 gives both established and emerging designers and makers the opportunity to showcase their work, highlighting the skill and diversity of craft produced across the South West region. Unique examples of textiles, jewellery, ceramics, glass and lighting will be on display with a range of prices to suit anyone looking for the ideal Christmas gift.

Present Makers 2017 A selling exhibition of contemporary craft 11 November – 23 December

Artist Frances Hatch, winner of the THG OPEN 2016, has been making a new body of work for ‘Red Earth Under My Nails’ her solo show at THG. Created outside in situ, these paintings have been produced using and integrating earth and found materials in selected locations predominantly across Devon. Describing her work Frances explains ‘Geology becomes my pigment.’

Frances Hatch was awarded the Shenzhen International Watercolour Biennial Prize in 2016 by The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. She contributed to Thames and Hudson’s 2015 publication ‘Drawing and Painting: Materials and Techniques for Contemporary Artists’ and is senior tutor at West Dean College.

Running alongside the Evolver Prize exhibition from Sat 29 July – Sat 26 August East Devon Tenant Art Exhibition.

Artists, photographers, designers and makers compete annually for their work to be published on the front cover of the July/August edition of Evolver, the Wessex Arts and Culture Guide. The winner also receives £1000 prize money.

To mark the 100th edition of Evolver, this exhibition comprises of 100 cover designs - the winning Evolver cover and the 99 runners-up. This exhibition is the ideal way to discover and purchase the work of Wessex-based artists, both amateur and professional.
