TRF – DEMYSTIFIEDNovember is Rotary Foundation month - emphasising our commitment to the

important work accomplished by The Rotary Foundation. Midtown thought of the best way of observing the designated month, the last meeting of the month was slated for a talk on TRF by the “TRF Google” of Midtown Rtn.P.K.Ramakrishna. It is a rare sight to see so many Midtowners flocking on time for the weekly meeting and that too when the topic has something to ponder upon. But brand “Ramki” did wonders and the hall saw a healthy attendance with some rare birds visiting. Rtn.Ramki is well known for his indepth knowledge on TRF, he has been extensively associated with matching grants not only at club level but also at the Dist.3180 level. His commitment is evident from the track history and accomplished projects.

First Rtn.Ramki explained the fundamentals of TRF, he explained how The Rotary Foundation started, activities, fund flow pattern and then went on to explain the nuances of Matching grants. Having completed many grants, he opined that anybody willing can take up matching grants. He stressed on the point that the most important factor of a grant is identifying a “contact” who can contribute to the proposed project either individually or through the club. He explained in simple terms how the grants actually work, the ratios, the flow pattern , et al. In his simple but impressive delivery he shared the details of grants. He emphasized that all Rotarians should make good use of online data available and advised to generate contacts who could be potential contributors. Rtn.Ramki wished to do an actual workshop showcasing the entire grant process.

Young turks of Midtown were seen busily absorbing the information shared by Rtn.Ramki. Curios about the various aspects of TRF, Midtowners started shooting questions about TRF. In the midst of the Q&A, past Rotarian Subramaniam walked in to the hall with a guest. Mr.Subbu shared details of an initiative by the Traffic Police of Mysore and requested volunteers for the program.

Midtown has one of the best resources on TRF, Rtn.Ramki is more than willing to share & mentor members in the area of Matching grants. Thank you sir for the valuable insights.

Family Health days help 250,000 in Africa.

In 1994, Marion Bunch lost her son to AIDS. It was early on in the U.S. AIDS epidemic, and the stigma surrounding the disease kept her from talking about her son's illness with anyone but family members.

Within a year, Bunch, a member of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody, Georgia, USA, proposed an idea to her club, and through Rotary began connecting community and professional leaders who shared a passion for disease prevention. This was the start of Rotarians for Family Health and AIDS Prevention (RFHA), a Rotarian Action Group.

The political scenario is now a hornet's nest. INC is baffled, the media is frenzy, people are swept away with the hysteria. The new cabinet of ministers are
