ABOUT THE UBC BIOMOD TEAM
The UBC BIOMOD Team is a group of multidisciplinary undergraduate students
whose goal is to develop and implement solutions to relevant problems in science
and technology using biomolecular nanotechnology. Our projects are presented at
an internationally renowned competition hosted by the Wyss Institute at Harvard
University.
The team is led, operated and managed by students with diverse backgrounds in
biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, and life sciences. Last year, with only one
year of experience and operation, the team succeeded in earning a Silver project
award and received the First Place Audience Choice Award before an international
audience. This was in recognition of their novel design of a multiple drug, triggered
release nanostructure for use in cancer therapy.
The success of the previous year was only made possible with the generous support
of sponsors like you. Sponsorship funds help purchase biological materials,
chemicals, and equipment, and support travel costs to attend competitions, where
students have the opportunity to learn and develop networks with other students
and experts in the field.
Please consider supporting the engineers, scientists, and young minds of today for
the next innovative biomolecular idea of the future. Thank you!

BIOMOD is an annual biomolecular design competition that has been hosted by
Harvard’s Wyss Institute since 2011. Undergraduate students from institutions around the world are
invited to create projects that implement novel ideas in the field biomolecular nanotechnology in
order to provide revolutionary solutions to some of society’s most pressing problems.
The projects that are developed include novel ideas that have been proven feasible with experimental
findings, predictive modelling techniques, and a vast scaffold of supporting research. The
competition motivates students to test their ideas in a real laboratory environment and develop
valuable entrepreneurial skills. Every new project is built from the ground up, as students must secure
work spaces, funding, and materials.
This year UBC BIOMOD is taking on a new, significant problem. We are developing a nanostructure
with a built-in tracking mechanism that will have the ability to permeate the enigmatic blood-brain
barrier and deliver therapeutics to a target such as central nervous system lymphoma. This structure
will be made out of biological molecules, and will therefore be both biocompatible and
biodegradable. With this drug delivery system, we hope to accurately target tumours in locations
that are typically very hard to access while reducing the necessity of traditional chemotherapy, thus
reducing cell damage in other areas of the body.
This year, we are aiming to receive even higher recognition for our project than we achieved in the
2015 BIOMOD competition. We can only do so with your help.
WHY SPONSOR US?
Sponsors play a vital role in the development and success of the
UBC BIOMOD team. The generous support of sponsors provides
opportunities for undergraduate students to learn about
biomolecular nanotechnology, gain hands-on lab experience, and
improve project management skills. It also allows for innovative
and creative ideas to be generated and implemented for potential
future applications in the community.
The UBC BIOMOD team is dedicated to supporting
the education of bright individuals and strives for the
personal and professional growth of its team
members through the facilitation of learning
experiences, networking opportunities, and
development of entrepreneurial skills. By becoming a
sponsor, you are involved in the team’s success and
actively investing in the future generation of
enthusiastic students and new biomolecular ideas.

SPONSORSHIP BENEFITS
Sponsors of the BIOMOD team not only have first-
hand access to and knowledge of the next generation
of biomolecular nanotechnologists, but also gain
from many publicity opportunities, both local and
international The team is actively involved in raising
awareness and finding solutions to the top scientific
problems of today though UBC Engineering and
community events. Our outreach to the community
showcases and promotes our project, and inspires
creative and critical thinking about many scientific
problems. The BIOMOD competition itself is an
internationally renowned competition with teams
from all over the world. In every instance that we are
out promoting our work, our team, and our project,
our sponsors are recognized and acknowledged.
