The Moreton Bay Symphony Orchestra is establishing a reputation for delivering quality music in the Moreton Bay region. Our standard of playing is enhanced by the inclusion of all members of the community and collaboration with local professional musicians. With any community group, the organization will not function well unless there is a dedicated and committed group of individuals who work tirelessly to move the organization forwards. MBSO has a hard-working and committed Management Committee which fundraises, organises concerts, tours and other events and also finds time to play in one or more of the ensembles that are offered by MBSO. I would like to sincerely thank the MBSO Management Committee for their dedication and vision to extend MBSO beyond being just another community orchestra.
MBSO is comprised of four main ensembles: MBSO, the MBSO Youth Symphony, MBSO Combined and the
MBSO Junior Strings will commence in 2014 under the musical direction of Ms Katie Lawton. The members will be auditioned each year for placement in the group. This ensemble has been formed to enhance and build the string sections in the MBSO Youth Symphony, and eventually, MBSO.
The MBSO Jazz Band was formed in 2013. 20 members from various sections of MBSO join forces to enjoy playing rock, swing, ballads and Latin repertoire. The MBSO Jazz Band rehearses for 5 to 6 weeks prior to a performance. Any members of MBSO and the MBSO Youth Symphony are welcome to join this ensemble.
The MBSO Flute Choir performs prior to concerts and at small events in the Moreton Bay Region. The group consists of flute, piccolo and alto flute players from MBSO and the MBSO Youth Symphony. Similar to the Jazz Band, the Flute Choir rehearses 5 or 6 times before a scheduled performance.
