About the Institution

R.V. College of Engineering (RVCE) is established in 1963, an Autonomous Institute and affiliated to VTU, Belagavi. The institution is managed by Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust (RSST) a nonprofit Trust. Currently, the institution offers 12 Bachelor, 21 Master Programs and all the departments have research centres, affiliated to VTU Belagavi. The institution has set a Vision “Leadership in Quality Technical Education, Interdisciplinary Research & Innovation, With a Focus

thon Sustainable and Inclusive Technology”. Ranked 58 in the Country by NIRF during 2017-18. The institution is accredited by NAAC. All the UG programs and eligible PG programs have been accredited multiple times by NBA. The College currently has student strength of about 5600, faculty strength of more than 400, Technical & Administrative Staff of 247 and about 250 Research Scholars are pursuing Ph.D. The institution has filed 32 patents since last two years, of which 22 Patents have been published in the gazette of Indian Patent Office.

About the Workshop

Short-range systems involve transfer of information from millimeters to a few hundreds of meters. However, short-range communication systems are not only systems providing wireless connectivity in the immediate proximity, but in a broader perspective they also define technologies used to build service access in local areas. The Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) envisions that by year 2017 there would be seven trillion wireless devices serving seven billion people. Certainly, the overwhelming majority of these devices will be short-range communication systems providing wireless connectivity to humans and machines and be an integral part of IoE.

About the Department

The Telecommunication Engineering Department was started in the year 1992 and now conducts one undergraduate program with academic autonomy, two postgraduate programs (M. Tech in Digital Communication Engineering & RF & Microwave Engineering) and Ph.D program with affiliation to VTU.

A total of 22 experienced faculty members, support four core specializations (Networking, Wireless Communications, Signal processing and Embedded Systems) in the Department. Department has MOU with companies such as Pace Microelectronics, Keysight Technologies, and Tejas Networks for enhancing the research profile and quality of U.G and P.G projects. Industry Specific Laboratories Tejas Networks lab by Tejas Networks private Ltd and Advanced RF and wireless communication lab by Keysight Technologies are established to carry out research development and product Engineering.

Objectives and Scope:

The Workshop focuses on:

Design Challenges in Short range wireless communication.

Research Opportunities in Millimeter wave multicarrier wireless transmission.

Focus areas in Visible light Communication for the project/ research work.

Scope for Research in Ultra Wide band communication in today's scenario.

Major Topics :

ØState of the Art Short Range Wireless Communication (SWC) systems- WLAN, Bluetooth, Zigbee,

ØNFC, UWB, BAN, 60GHz, LiFi

ØChannel Model for Short Range

ØPHY Layer Design Issues for High Data

ØModulation techniques for SWC

ØWireless Sensor Networks & Vehicular Networks

ØDesign Issues in SWC

ØSignal Processing in SWC

ØHands on session on SDR & Qualnet
