About the Institute National Institute of Design, Madhya Pradesh (NID MP) is an autonomous institute under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India. The Institute had commenced academic activities from the Academic Year 2019-20. NID MP was declared as an Institute of National Importance (INI) after the President gave assent to National Institute of Design (Amendment) Act, 2019 on 29th November 2019. The Institute can now offer Bachelor Degree in Design (B. Des.), Master Degree in Design (M. Des.) as well as PhD in Design.

NID MP had been established with the primary motive of spreading and promoting design education, research, and practices commensurate with the policies and schemes of the Government such as “Make in India”, “Skill India”, “Digital India”, “Startup India”, and “Smart City initiatives” to name a few. It is a quintessential Design institute, and its team is walking on an eternal quest to redefine the prevailing formats and standards of Design education for the growth of Design based industries in India. The team competes within self to outdo ourselves in every single effort and that is how we live by every day and discharge our duties.

Admission Process NID Madhya Pradesh invites applications for admissions to its third batch of 4-year Bachelor of Design (B. Des) program in the

Academic Year 2021-22. Students are admitted through centralized DAT (Design Aptitude Test). Admission to program at NID MP is based on the candidate’s

performance in the two-stages of Design Aptitude Test. The objective of these tests is to assess the knowledge, skills, and behavioral abilities of candidates.

Successful candidates admitted to B. Des. Program at NID Madhya Pradesh will be required to attend a mandatory Foundation Program of one-year duration. Allotment of a discipline of choice is based on a candidate’s merit and preference only after successful completion of the Foundation Program.

Number of seats for Indian Nationals in Bachelor of Design Program, including reserved categories are Seventy-Five (75). The percentage of seats reserved for candidates (Indian nationals) belonging to various reserved categories are as prescribed in the

Government of India guidelines. B. Des Program: The four-year long Bachelor of Design Program is offered at NID Madhya Pradesh in the following areas of

Foundation Studies The one-year Foundation Program introduces students to the fundamentals of design and helps develop ways of

perception, aesthetic sensitivity, understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of design and relationship of design with human senses and emotions, culture, environment, and ecology.

Basic design studio courses are augmented by introductory studies in Humanities. This allows the students to develop a world view, understanding of the Indian milieu and the socio-cultural context for Design to operate.

The varied inputs over two semesters provide the necessary direction, stimuli, facilities, and experience to foster creativity and thereby help everyone discover their own identity and potential. The Foundation Program is the basis on which the remaining design curriculum is built.

All students in the first year are admitted to common Foundation program and then based on their merit and preference, they are allotted a Discipline in the second year.

Industrial Design Discipline Program is dedicated to enabling the learning and development of extraordinary, innovative leaders, who will bring

new levels of creativity, vision, and integrity to the discipline. This extremely diverse Program delivers to develop competitive edge in learners to be industry ready for all mass

production-based industry through design. The Program not only prepares to focus on the appearance of a product, but also on how it functions, is manufactured

and ultimately the value and experience it provides for users.

Communication Design Discipline

Program deals with the extreme diversity that lies within the broad spectrum of this discipline. Systems- based

approach is delivered dealing with the totality of media and messages within the culture or an organization as a singular integrated process.

Design skills are accordingly developed to be customized to specific orientation of every cultural interface, people, organization as an interface and experiential factor. Learner is exposed to various sub domains of this wide field through various studio assignments and eventually they choose to major in one of the specialized domains

Textile and Apparel Design Discipline

This is a unique program addressing Textile, fashion, textile-based lifestyle accessories and interior designing

requirement in its broadest spectrum. The program strikes a balance in the domains of textile product development, and apparel designing. It is deep rooted in scientific processes of textile development and Garment manufacturing technology.

Students will also develop high caliber and potential in both traditional handcrafted sector and sophisticated modern technology of textile and apparel industry.

The program also strikes a balance with inputs in the areas of the art of design, the science of chemistry and the perspective of history in a rich, challenging learning environment at the creative forefront of the textile industry

Safety & security of students is ensured through the following mechanisms: A Guard room at the main gate keeps 24x7 vigil at the gates, regulating the entry of persons and vehicles into the premises. Surveillance is maintained through an integrated system of security guards and gadgets. 24x7 presence of Lady Security Guards at the Girls’ hostel. Madhya Pradesh Design Utsav (MPDU) is NID Madhya Pradesh’s annual design event hosted to serve as a platform for institutions

imparting design education, professionals, and industry to come together, share information and build long-lasting relationships. The

event is a step towards bringing India’s Design fraternity together and provide an opportunity to business, design students,

Government functionaries and general public to interact with them.

Achievements (i) By the students:

D'source Corona Design Challenge was conducted by the IDC School of Design, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in May-June 2020. Participants were expected to follow a design process in solving the given problem with the steps of understanding the problem, analysis and ideation (the act of coming up with several concepts) resulting in a final solution. The following entries submitted by students of NID Madhya Pradesh were amongst the winning entries:

India Government Mint, Hyderabad organized a design competition in April 2020 for college students in order to introduce new

medals on the theme of “Buddha for peace and harmony of the world”. The sub-themes were “Four Buddhist monuments” and

“Four Buddha postures”. Mr Shantanu Satpute, a student of the NID Madhya Pradesh was one of the winners.

NID MP campus Architect received a Commendation Certificate in Institutional Category by Indian Building Congress, which

was presented by Sh. Hardeep Singh Puri (Minister of Civil Aviation and Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs) at the ceremony hosted at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi in January 2020.
