About the EEC The Estuarine Education Center (EEC) is a 40-acre facility located on the Jackson County Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. In addition to the educational emphasis in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Environmental Studies for the college’s students, the EEC offers exciting opportunites for the public to paddle kayaks, canoes or stand-up paddle boards; climb the rock wall; challenge themselves on the Ropes Course; enjoy 1.5 miles of nature trails through the woods along Mary Walker Bayou; and host special events in a serene setting. Kayaking, Canoeing & Stand-Up Paddle Boarding

Our staff of ACA-certified and trained kayak instructors can teach you the skills to enjoy this wonderful sport, whether you choose to paddle on the bayou, river or ocean. We have a range of kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddle boards to fit all sizes and skill levels, along with all the gear you’ll need to enjoy your paddling experience. We offer guided tours on Mary Walker Bayou (next to the college) and the Pascagoula River, or we can meet you at a venue of your choosing.

Ropes Challenge Course

Our Ropes Challenge Course represents the classic experientiallearning experience. It is ideally suited for work groups, sportsteams, family groups, church groups and school. Our facility has aLow Ropes Course that focuses on leadership, team-building,communication, trust and group problem solving, and a HighRopes Course that promotes personal challenge and growth withteam encouragement and support.

Rockwall Climbing

Under the supervision of our trained rock wall climbinginstructors, the EEC offers a 27-foot-high indoor climbing wall withthree levels of difficulty, as well as a 45-foot outdoor climbing wallthat is part of the High Ropes Course. Participants are “on belay” at all times, with a trained instructor maintaining control of the climber. Come learn the fun sport of rock climbing, or test your skills on our challenging routes.
