About the Conference

Hope you are well and taking necessary precautions to combat COVID-19. st

The 21 century is the age of environmental challenges world over, all the countries are facing increasing threat of climate change, pollution, deforestation, disasters, land use change, biodiversity and ecosystem services losses, environmental health diseases & epidemics and impinging challenges of socio economic inequalities and development. Increased anthropogenic activities and exploitation of nature have further escalated the magnitude of these environmental losses and human health hazards. Presently, human beings are suffering the most severe health crisis in the formation of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) ever in the history of the civilization. COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.

thOn 30 April 2020, a total of 31,45,407 confirmed cases and 2,21,823 confirmed death due to COVID-19 in the 214 Countries of the world. At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. Most of countries are facing complete and partial lockdown. Therefore, chances are ripe that if nothing is done soon enough to address these looming environmental challenges and health hazards, we may be again facing an existential crisis of life on this planet.

In September 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that included 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 inter-linked targets. The goals and targets covered under 2030 Agenda includes poverty eradication, mitigating pollution, increasing reliability and sustainability, ensuring access to clean air, water and energy, sanitation and hygiene, sustainable cities and urbanization, biodiversity conservation etc. A sharp focus was laid to achieving economic, social, cultural, civil, political and human rights under SDGs by removing gender inequality, conflicts, poverty and environmental threats.

Today, there are not possible to organize any public gathering based event due to lockdown phase and spread of COVID-19. In the light of present situation we have decided to organize an online (digital) event. This National Online Conference and other environmental activities on the occasion of the World Environmental Day 2020 would provide such a platform for active deliberations among various stakeholders including researchers & students and would aim to produce actionable suggestions for the policy makers. The main focus would be to build capacities on best practices on affordable, alternative solutions, sustainable and clean energy, pollution control and management, restoration of ecosystem services, cure & prevention of environmental health diseases, affordable and sustainable spatial planning techniques and sustainable transport systems. Attempts would be made to explore the inter-linkages between global environmental challenges, human health and sustainable development in light of SDG's 2030 and Paris agreement 2015.
