About SBMThe Whole is Greater than the Sum of Its Parts.

That's the perfect metaphor for the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM), a multidisciplinary, non-profit organization founded in 1978. Each part, each discipline, can stand alone. But together - when nursing, psychology, medicine and public health form an interdisciplinary team - new perspectives emerge on human behavior, health and illness. Each member contributes to that unique team, and each disciplinary experience and expertise is an essential part of the whole.

SBM is the premiere scientific forum for behavioral and biomedical researchers, clinicians, administrators and educators to study the interactions of behavior, physiological and biochemical states, and morbidity and mortality. SBM is the go-to resource for practice-based behavioral medicine and for informing and advocating for policy relevant to optimizing health.

"I was truly honored to receive the Society of Behavioral Medicine Excellence in Research Award and very grateful for the support. This award will help fund my doctoral dissertation, which consists of an intervention focusing on daily self-weighing as the primary self-monitoring behavior for weight loss. Thanks to the award, I will be able to more objectively measure self-weighing frequency, which will strengthen our understanding of its impact on weight loss. Not only has the Society supported my dissertation research, it has also broadened my exposure to the larger field of behavioral medicine."

~Dori M. Steinberg, MS, RD Award: 2010 Distinguished Student Award (Research) University: Doctoral Candidate, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Project: Weighing Everyday to Improve and Gain Health - The Effect of Daily Self-Weighing on Weight Loss in Adults
