About us, the short version is a mature aged married couple with a teenage son who is at home with us who is about half way through an apprenticeship. We also enjoy movies but have not been for a while. At home we mainly prefer the older movies such as “To Catch a Theif” or “An Affair to Remember” or “Come September” or ”Casablanca” and most of the films of that era. We also like any John Wayne movie as well as Star Wars and 007 movies. Michael also loves the old mid 40’s – 60”s B-Grade horror movies like the “Body Snatchers” – “Creature from the Black Lagoon” – “Attack of the Giant Leeches” – “Attack of The Killer Tomatoes’ – “Man From Planet X” – “Forbidden Planet.” The longer version is Debbie grew up in Merrylands while Michael is a country boy from Guyra in the New England coming to Sydney to join the NSW Police going through the old Redfern Academy. Debbie went into Nursing after she left school. We married August 1980 after meeting at a Nurses function and have since lived in the same house at Glossodia in the Hawkesbury. Michael is now retired after leaving the Police Force going out H.O.D. after 30 years. Deb is still nursing. In her younger days Deb played Women’s Hockey and later 10 Pin Bowling playing in a league but with the knees and back not being what they were it has been a while since she has bowled. Michael has always been a rev head who enjoyed anything mechanical and working on engines and cars. This led to setting up a very extensive workshop and getting into motor sport, first speedway and later Karting competing in State and National Titles finishing in the top 5 in both. After getting out of motor sport his interest in anything mechanical continued with him becoming involved in Model Engineering and antique stationary and industrial engines and anything steam such as steam locomotives and stationary steam engines. He has made a few working stationary models and a couple of ride on Loco”s that are coal fired live steam with one capable of pulling up 25 – 30 adults. We have been members of the Central Coast Society Of Model Engineers for many years but in the process of moving to Luddenham which is the Sydney Society of Model Engineers.

TOGETHER: For many years we have enjoyed camping, both at the ski park here on the Hawkesbury where we are regulars as well as going away packing the camping gear in the boat and camping at caravan parks that are on the water. We were both also involved with Scouting with Deb being a Scout Leader and Michael the groups Treasurer. Not getting any younger, setting up and packing up tents and tarps and camping gear seemed to be getting more like hard work than we remembered it being when we were younger so the year before last we bought a caravan which we love getting away in whenever we can. We also have a couple of boats and love getting out on the water. In addition to social days on the water Michael enjoys getting out for a day fishing. We always love either a day on the river in the smaller boat or spending a weekend or 4 or 5 days on the bigger boat which we keep moored on the Central Coast.
