Children love discovering the world. That is
why they always ask interesting questions.
How does a rocket fly?
Come along with us on an adventure to make new
discoveries!Find out how a rainbow is
formed, why bees are useful, how fish breathe under
water, as well as the answers to many other questions.
I was three years old when my mum and dad took me to the zoo for the first time. I saw almost all the animals from my books live and concluded – they drew them really well
in picture books. I liked fish best of all. They were playful, swimming in water here and there, chasing one another. My parents bought me a fish, a gold one. I named it Lensky. Grandma said it was wonderful for a child to have a pet. The other grandma added it was great for children’s upbringing because a child should get used to having responsibilities from an early age. So, eventually, I got a fishbowl and more fish.
I wondered for a long time: “Why is Lensky a goldfish?” The only thing that came to my mind was that it was made of the same material as my mum’s chain she wore around her neck. Yes, I know, Lensky is a goldfish because it is made of gold!

HOW FISH SWIMThe goldfish has a spindly body covered in scales arranged as roof tiles. It uses fins to move, keep balance and determine the direction, and swim bladder to adjust the depth at which it is. Swim bladder is like a reservoir which fish can fill with air and empty. Thus, fish can either move from one depth to another, or remain at the same depth in water.
Dive in – Dive Out
2. Immerse the bottle in a tub full of water. When the bottle is at the bottom, shake it to make sure there isn’t any air left in it.
1. Put one end of the hose into the opening of the balloon and fasten it with thread. Make two long cylinders out of Plasticine and put them in the bottle together with the balloon.
3. Blow air into the free end of the hose for a while. What do you notice?

The balloon will fill with air, which will reduce the amount of water and the bottle will move towards the surface.
Just as the goldfish inflates or deflates the swim bladder, so do submarines take water in and out in order to increase or reduce their weight, that is, to move towards the bottom or the surface.

Goldfish
The goldfish comes from the rivers and lakes of China and Japan, and its ancestor is the carp, olive-grey in colour. The goldfish arrived in Europe two hundred years ago as an unusual gift for Madame Pompadour, a friend of the French king Louis the XV.
HOW TO CATCH A GOLDFISH WHICH MAKES WISHES COME TRUE
1. Draw on a piece of paper as many fish as you can and cut them out with scissors.
2. Spread glue over the paper fish and sprinkle them with glitter.
3. Attach a paper clip to the front of each fish.
drawing paper colouring pencils paper clips glitter a pair of scissors gluemagnets (fridge magnets will do just fine) short sticks (mixing spoons will do) rope
4. Tie one end of the rope to the stick, and a magnet to the other end of the rope.

HOW LITTLE FISHIES BREATHE UNDER WATERLittle fishies take water in with their gills. Gills are organs with which membrane extracts air from water. That is how little fishies breathe under water.
5. Put a scarf on the floor – it will represent a lake.
7. You can invite your friends to join you in this game. The one who catches the goldfish is the winner and he or she makes a wish.
6. Put the fish on the scarf and throw the hook.

The goldfish is believed to be able to grant a wish, therefore, the person who catches a goldfish is considered very lucky. Inspired by this belief, the famous Russian writer Alexander S. Pushkin wrote “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Little Fish”.

Spring came and I agreed with the girls from the block to make wreaths, chains and bracelets of yellow and white “gold”. We used dandelions for yellow gold, and daisies
for white gold. First, we were supposed to provide the “material” for work, so we set out to pick the flowers. When I tried to pick a dandelion, I got stung. My finger hurt badly and I ran home crying.
Mum quickly understood what had happened. She put a cold compress on my finger and explained that a bee had stung me and that she had removed a sting from my finger. She tried to convince me that bees were useful and hard working. This one was scared and it was merely defending itself, because I wanted to pick the flower on which it was standing. Even the fact that my favourite snack is honey sandwich didn’t help. My hand kept hurting and tears just kept on going: “I don’t care! Bees are naughty and I’m never eating honey again!”
