rinG in some new Year’sFinanCial resolutions
Now that 2011 is almost here, you may want to make some New Year’s resolutions. Planning to volunteer? Go to the gym more often? Learn a new language? All worthy ambitions, of course, but this year, why not add some financial resolutions as well? Which resolutions should you make? Here are a few ideas to consider:* Boost your retirement accounts. No matter how old you’ll be in 2011, one thing is certain — you’re a year closer to retirement than you were in 2010. And that’s why you’ll want to increase your contribu-tions to your retirement accounts. If your salary is going up in 2011, boost the amount you defer for your 401(k) or other employer-sponsored retirement plan, such as a 403(b) plan (if you work for a school or other tax-exempt organization) or a 457(b) plan (if you work for a state or local government). With tax-deductible contributions, tax-deferred growth of earnings and several investment options, these types of plans are tremendous ways to save for retirement. And try to “max out” your traditional or Roth IRA, too. * Look for opportunities. With the uncertainties in the economy and the volatility of the financial markets, many people decide to head to the investment “sidelines” for a while. Yet, this environment may actually be a good one for investors with patience, discipline and the ability to look beyond yesterday’s headlines. For one thing, many quality securities are now good values. Also, we’re still seeing low infla-tion and low interest rates — factors that may lead to greater economic demand and improved strength in the financial markets.
* Don’t over-react to market swings. Over the past few years, we’ve seen plenty of sudden, sharp swings in the financial markets, and you’re likely going to see more of them in 2011. Don’t over-react to either the “ups” or the “downs” of the market. Over-reacting leads to short-term thinking — and successful investors are the ones who can maintain a long-term perspective. * Rebalance when necessary. At least once a year, review and rebalance your portfolio, as necessary, to make sure it still reflects your goals, risk toler-ance and family situation, all of which can change over time. * Reduce your debts. While the sluggish economy of the past couple of years has obviously been a cause of concern for everyone, we have seen one “silver lining” in that many people, concerned about over-spending, have shed some of their debt load. The less money you have to spend on your debts, the more you’ll have available to invest for your future, so do what you can to cut down on what you owe. * Maintain adequate cash levels. As an investor, you’ve got at least two good reasons for maintaining enough cash in your portfolio. First, having adequate cash available means you’ll be ready to act quickly to take advantage of good investment opportunities. And second, by having a cash cushion, you won’t be forced to liquidate long-term investments to pay for short-term needs such as a major car repair, a new furnace, a big doctor’s bill, and so on.By following these suggestions, you can position yourself to make progress toward your long-term goals in 2011 — and in all the New Years that fol-low.

Making Sense of Investing.
Throwing RiceOne of the oldest wedding traditions, throwing rice is the symbol of fruitfulness and prosperity. Tossing it after the ceremony was believed to bestow fertility upon the bride and groom. Eating rice and other grains was thought to guarantee health, wealth and hap-piness. Today, rice tossing is replaced by birdseed tossing, because uncooked rice is damaging to birds.Veil
Mystique and romance has surrounded the veil for more than one thousand years. Originally, the veil is thought to have been used to hide the bride from abductors, just as the similar dress of her bridesmaids was meant to do. But a more romantic interpre-tation evolved later which believed that concealment (as the bride’s face beneath a veil) rendered what was hidden more valuable. Another early interpretation of the veil was that it symbolized youth and virginity.Ring The wedding ring has traditionally been worn on the third finger of the left hand be-cause it was believed that a vein in this finger ran directly to the heart.Kiss Some believe that the couple’s first kiss at the close of the ceremony, the bridge and groom exchanged spirits with their breath and part of their souls was also exchanged.HoneymoonThe first weddings comprised of a groom taking his bride by capture. He would take her somewhere hidden away so her relatives and villagers couldn’t find them. There they stayed for one moon phase and drank mead, a wine made from honey, to make them more amorous. Thus, the word “honeymoon” was born. Today, the honeymoon is the time when the couple can get away for awhile.
We have assembled a group of wedding professionals to assist you in planning every aspect of your special day from flowers to honeymoons! Make sure you tell your wedding professional you saw their ad in the About Conyers Magazine!

Before You BuyToday there are so many sources of flowers; whether ordering on the internet, direct from the grower (or so it says!), buying at grocery stores, wholesale clubs, or from street vendors, they all seem to offer great bargains! Your wedding flower order is probably the most im-portant and expensive one you will ever place. On your wedding day, will you get what you expected? Will you actually receive the particular color, variety and qual-ity flower you wanted? If you are disappointed, what recourse will you have?
Choosing a FloristA florist’s reputation is their lifeline, especially when it relates to wedding work. Brides visit many local vendors during the long planning process. Most local wedding vendors are closely linked. All kinds of information is shared...good and bad!
An award winning local florist says: “A good florist has an established relationship with deep roots with their flower sources! We have a long term and consistent relationship with our flower brokers who import directly from growers worldwide. Our sources can have a particular flower variety, color and size, grown, cut and/or reserved just for your wedding! The growers fill the broker’s special orders first insuring they get the best product available and in turn you get the best flowers for your wedding.”
“What is left goes to the secondary markets, which include the on-line sales, supermarkets and discount stores. As a bride, you’ll spend more time on planning your wedding than any other event in your life, and everything revolves around the flowers! You deserve better than leftovers!”
“If budget is an issue with your wedding, the right florist will be interested helping you get the most for your money. Showing you inexpensive alternatives in flower selection and bouquet designs can help you have the wedding of your dreams with out breaking the bank.”
