Starting Jabber

Locate the Jabber icon on your desktop, or open your Programs folder and search for Cisco Jabber. You will be prompted to enter your username and password.

Enter your email address for your username, then the password you were provided for your account. If you want Jabber to store your credentials and automatically sign you in when you click the Jabber icon, tic the checkbox next to Automatic sign-in prior to clicking Sign In.

Jabber will launch and you will begin in the Contacts tab of the client.

In the Contacts tab you can:

Chats

Use the Chats tab to view all recent messages either sent or received.

Right click any recent chat message to view alternate interaction methods, or double click an entry to open and continue the chat.

Recents

In the Recents tab you can:

See who has called you sorted by timeframe or by placed, received, and missed

Return calls

During a call you can:

Mute/Un-mute the call. Control call volume. Place call on hold, display a keypad, start

a video call, merge or transfer calls

From the Voicemail tab you can:

Configuring Cisco Jabber

Select the Gear Icon > File > Options…

In the General tab of the Options menu, select if you would prefer Jabber to start automatically when your computer starts. You may also select if you would like all open conversations to open

automatically when your computer starts if Jabber was closed with active conversations open. Finally, decide if you would like to enable the Spell Checker function in Jabber to correct spelling errors automatically as you type. If you do not select this, you will see a red error line under any misspelled word and will need to correct these errors manually.

To set your font preferences, select the Chats tab. You can change the default font for both incoming and outgoing instant messages. If you are messaging a contact who is not reformatting all their incoming messages, they will see your message appear in the exact font style, color and size you select. (Pressing Default will set the font back to the Jabber default font and size.)

To set your default speakers, microphone or ringers/alerts, select the Audio tab.

Note: Click Advanced to determine the preference order of your audio devices (if you plan on using something other than the integrated audio devices).

To set which camera Jabber should use when making video calls (if using something other than the integrated camera), select Video.

To set your call settings for incoming calls using either your computer or your desk phone, select the Calls tab.

Jabber will automatically change your presence status to Away at specific intervals based on your settings. To set your auto-Away settings, select Status.

To share your location with your contacts, check the Enable locations options. Then select the Create new location name button and edit your location information.

To set your default alert settings and your ring tone, select Sounds and Alerts .

To set how Jabber accepts requests, select the Privacy tab.

Note: Click Advanced to manage your blocked options lists.

To set your phone services username and password, select Accounts and input your username and password into the appropriate fields.

Note: If your administrator has set your client to use your Windows credentials for your Phone and Voicemail accounts, you may not have an Accounts tab in your client.

To set preferences for all of your phones, including call forwarding and voicemail options, select the Self care Portal tab. (Pressing the Open Self Care button will open a browser window and take you to the Self Care Portal site, where you will need to login using your username and password.)

You may wish to have all your Chat conversations stored in an email folder for archiving. To allow Jabber to save your chat history to your Outlook client, open the Outlook tab and tic the checkbox.

To set your WebEx meetings settings, select the Meetings tab. Click the Edit Account… button and a new window will open where your WebEx Meeting site will be automatically populated. You will need to enter your WebEx username and password.

To set your calendar integration options, select the Calendar tab. (After making your selection you will need to click Apply, then OK. You will have to sign out of Jabber and restart the application for changes to take effect.)

After closing the Options window, click the Phone Preferences icon in the lower left hand corner of the Cisco Jabber client to:

Use your computer for incoming calls

Associate a device for incoming calls

Forward calls to one of your devices

Note: Make sure you have entered your username and password in the Accounts section of the Jabber Options (if required) before trying to associate devices.
