ElectricityDepartment.ADWEAisresponsibleforimplementing governmentpolicyregardingwaterandelectricitysectorintheEmirate,includingprivatizationofthewaterandelectricitysector.AbuDhabiWaterandElectricityAuthoritysupplieselectricityandpotablewatertoapopulationofmorethan1.5millionintheemirateofAbuDhabi,overanareaof67340sq.km. ADWEAismanagedbyaBoardofManagement ChairedbyH.H.ShaikhDiabBinZayedAlNahyan.ADWEAmanagestheaffairsoffollowingwhollyownedsubsidiaries responsible fordifferent

activitiesinthewaterandelectricitysector:

Abstract

AbuDhabiWater&ElectricityAuthority(ADWEA)inFebruary2001implementedafasttrackenterpriseGISprojecttotransform

andintegratethemainstreamoftheWaterandElectricitybusinessactivitiesintodigitallyseamless,qualitative,modernutility

environment. ADWEAGISobjectiveswerethereforesettointegrateTransmissionandDistributionoperation,planning,

management,revenue&sales(billing),andcustomerservicetoproduceanelectronicseamlesswaterandelectricityutility

systemenvironment,thatprovidestheCustomerwithaHigherQualityofServices.GISProfile

ADWEAhasbeenoneofthemembersoftheADSDIsince2007. ADWEAhascooperatedcloselywithADSDIDataclearing

house,providingonquarterlybasisacompletesetofADWEAUtilityAssetDatacomprisingofElectrical,WaterDistributionand

TransmissioninadditiontoSeweragecollectionnetworkcoveringseamlesslythewholeEmirateofAbuDhabi.

DuringthelasttwoyearsADWEAhasworkedwithADSDICon:

DefiningaSimplifiedUtilityDataModel: incorporatesthenecessarydatastructureandcomponentsofwater,sewerandelectricaldatasetsandfeatureswhichareavailablethroughtheADSDIportaltotheADSDIcommunityforviewing.Thisunique

initiativeresultedinanindepthreviewoftheusercommunitybusinessrequirementsrelatedtoADWEAutilitynetwork.Asetof

sevendatamodelsareextractedthroughADWEAutilitydatatorepresentthedataofAbuDhabiandAlAinwaterandelectrical

distribution,TransmissionWaterandPowerNetworkandseweragecollectionsysteminADSDIGISportal.ThesimplifiedUtility

DataModelisconsideredasthebaselineforbenchmarkingthegrowthofthismodelinthefuturebasedontheexpansionofthe

SDIGISportalusabilitybytheADSDIcommunitysutilityinterestgroups.

DevelopingTheMetadataStandards: WhichcompriseofasetofmetadatadescribingtheutilitydatawithrelationtotheinformationrelatedtothedatasuchastheModificationorUpdatedateofthedatacomponents,thesourcesofthedata and

otherspecificmandatoryinformationmaintainedbyADWEAtofurtherenhancetheusabilityofitsutilitydatabytheADSDI

community.

DocumentingUtilityDataStandards: whichweredevelopedbasedontheexistingADWEAutilitydatastandardswhichwereinitiallydevelopedalongasetofrecognizedstandardsutilizedwithintheutilityGISinternationally.TheADWEAutilityDatastandardspresentavaluabledatadictionarywhichprovidesthedefinitionofeachfeaturewithinthecorrespondingutilitydata

set,correlatingthephysicalpropertiesofthefeaturesaspartofanactivecomponentinutilitynetworkservingtheADWEA

customersinAbuDhabi.
