A CONSTRUCTIVE SUPPORT FROM THE CONGRESS

The Congress said lately that it would offer a constructive support in the Budget Hearing of the House. Abhishek Manu Singhvi repeated the commitment of his party to participate actively in the session. However, the Congress spokesperson warned that the Centre should not consider the support of Congress for granted.

On February 26, the House received the Rail Budget and the following day, the Economic Survey will be presented while the General Budget was introduced on February 28. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, addressed the opposition and assured them that his government would attempt and make sure that the budget hearing of parliament discusses all important matters.

Just before the beginning of the hearing, the Prime Minister Modi revealed that he met with the leaders of supporters the day before and listened to their opinions. He assured that they would try to make sure that each important concern is debated in the budget hearing. He added that each government considers the budget hearing as a vital opportunity not only for the administration but also for the country since the budget reflects the aspirations and the expectations of the ordinary man.

The budget hearing is important for the government because six ordinances have to be discussed for replacing them by relevant rulings. Before the budget hearing, M. Venkaiah Naidu, minister of parliamentary affairs, organized a meeting with the entire party and the Prime Minister attended also the meeting. Modi called for smooth running of the parliament.

Naidu met also with Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president and asked for her collaboration in making sure that the house functions smoothly. When addressing the media, Naidu assured that the house would debate each ordinance and defended the bill on the land acquisition claiming that it was not against the farmers. According to him, there is no provision against farmers in the controversial bill. He added that the opposition was politicizing the issue.

The Congress, through the mouth of its spokesperson, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, hopes that the budget hearing will be more productive since the party was willing to provide a constructive support. However, Abhushek Singhvi warned that the Congress will not tolerate any slight attack on its ideals. Using clear terms, the Congress spokesperson stated that the party will not support the modified bill on the land acquisition that the government is willing to bring. According to him, the changed bill is against people and farmers.
