With her ex and a handsome new guy in tow, the valuable lessons she learnt as a girl begin to influence her future and Jackie discovers the one person in control of her life is... her.Starring Janet Dibley (The Two of Us, EastEnders, Fat Friends), Olivier Award nominee Graham Bickley (Ragtime, Bread) and Nicholas Bailey (EastEnders, The Archers), Jackie The Musical features classic 70’s hits, played live on stage by a world class band. Blood BrothersWritten by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences.Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it “brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” (The Daily Mail). The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.

The highly acclaimed production tells the history and the tragedy of Scotland, performed as a Highland ceilidh, with song, humour and drama intermixed; creating a unique theatrical event, that remains as vital and relevant today as it was when 7:84 Scotland first presented it, over 40 years ago. This extraordinary play looks at the exploitation and economic changes in the Scottish Highlands throughout history, from the ruthless evictions of Highland crofters making way for the more economically viable Cheviot sheep in the 18th century, to the development of stag hunts in game parks in the 19th century and finally the exploitation of resources during the North Sea Oil boom of the 1970’s. Written as a musical drama by John McGrath, it explores stories and experiences of Scotland’s land, sea and people across the centuries.

Democracyby Michael Frayn West Germany, 1969. Charismatic Willy Brandt has been elected Chancellor. When Brandt ‘dares more democracy’, his own party conspires, plots and tries to destroy him. As his enemies tighten the noose around his neck, Brandt believes the only man he can truly trust is Gunter Guillaume, his devoted personal assistant. But in the world of political intrigue, espionage and betrayal, is anyone to be trusted?
Shakespearean in scale but with all the twists and spins of modern politics, Democracy combines the fascination of a John Le Carre thriller (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and The Night Manager) with the dynamism of The West Wing and House of Cards.
Witty, thought provoking and highly entertaining, Democracy is a compelling and unmissable night at the theatre.
Following an acclaimed West End run, Michael Frayn’s award-winning play premieres in Scotland in an exciting new production from Scotland’s leading touring theatre company: Rapture Theatre.

HMTThursday 26 - Saturday 28 May SCOTTISH OPERA AND D’OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY PRESENT GILBERT & SULLIVAN’S
The MikadoThe team behind 2013’s smash hit The Pirates of Penzance returns with another Gilbert & Sullivan comedy classic. A stellar cast, in the hands of director Martin Lloyd-Evans, brings the fun to life with a delicious mix of cheeky English Music Hall and exquisite Japanese tradition. The Mikado has decreed that flirting should be punishable by death. But when his son Nanki-Poo falls for the beautiful Yum-Yum, it looks like someone might be heading for the executioner’s block…Packed with anti-Establishment silliness, and full of larger than life characters including self serving politicians that are all too recognisable today, this playful show features some of G&S’s most popular tunes, including Three little maids, Tit-willow and I’ve got a little list. Several of the cast from The Pirates of Penzance return, including Richard Suart, Nicholas Sharratt, Rebecca Bottone and former Scottish Opera Emerging Artist Sioned Gwen Davies, alongside baritone Stephen Richardson and comic genius Andrew Shore.

BBC Scottish Symphony OrchestraRunnicles Conducts Mahler 4Mozart Exsultate jubilate*Mozart Symphony in D majorMozart Voi avete un cor fedele*Mahler Symphony No.4*Carolyn Sampson soprano* Donald Runnicles conductor
A jangling of sleighbells, a little flurry of birdsong from the flutes – and is that a melody by Mozart? Not quite. Mahler’s Fourth Symphony might be his most classical in proportion, his most playful in style – outwardly, at any rate. But from deceptively innocent beginning to the “child’s vision of heaven” with which it ends, the Fourth has depths as poignant and profound as anything Mahler ever wrote. BBC SSO Conductor Emeritus Donald Runnicles is just the person to draw out its inner drama, and he’s joined by soprano Carolyn Sampson – who begins with two gloriously fresh vocal showpieces by the composer Mahler loved above all others: Mozart himself.

The RSNO’s very own Leader Maya Iwabuchi is the soloist tonight; a tuneful centrepiece to a concert that begins in Mahler’s Alpine meadows and ends with RSNO Principal Guest Conductor Thomas Søndergård throwing caution to the winds in Beethoven’s wildest symphony: the uproarious Seventh. Blink and you miss it: few overtures hurtle upwards and explode quite as brilliantly as Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmilla. But then, in the long winter nights of Northern Europe musicians have always known how to light up the sky. Sibelius’s Violin Concerto sounds like it’s lit by the midnight sun, and according to the critics, the rising French star Alexandra Soumm makes it glow with a special intensity. And Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony begins in an inferno of personal tragedy before cracking out the vodka and dancing till daybreak. Conductor Ben Gernon has a special flair for Tchaikovsky: on an autumn afternoon in Aberdeen, this should generate some serious heat.

In contrast, Mozart’s youthful Violin Concerto is pure sunshine. Between them lies “… a small monument to a great love”. Berg’s hyper-Romantic Lyric Suite conceals in its notes the story of a passionate love affair.

With two shattering chords, Ludwig van Beethoven blew the world of classical music wide open – and there’s still nothing to match the explosive power of his revolutionary Eroica Symphony. It’s a magnificent climax to an evening of music that simply won’t be kept down, whether it’s the blossoming beauty of Vaughan Williams’ radiant Oboe Concerto (played by the RSNO’s own Adrian Wilson) or a Dvorák overture that’s guaranteed to get any party started – all conducted by young dynamo Lahav Shani.Pre-concert talk 2.15pmKatherine Bryan (RSNO Principal Flute)Supported by Hedley G. He wrote that “my resistant spirit had a visible influence on [the Symphony] and it is through this that I sought to fight my condition”.

BBC Scottish Symphony OrchestraElgar’s Second SymphonyButterworth A Shropshire Lad: Rhapsody for orchestraSir James MacMillan Viola ConcertoElgar Symphony No.2Lawrence Power Viola Richard Farnes ConductorElgar’s Second Symphony begins in a great, glowing surge of confidence and pride. Then something happens – the layers peel away, the shadows darken, and we hear a great artist laying bare his damaged soul with an intensity and truth unprecedented in British music. It’s unforgettable: an emotional autobiography on a par with Mahler, and a fitting counterpart to the terrible beauty of Butterworth’s A Shropshire Lad, performed to mark the 100th anniversary of its composer’s death on the Somme. Sir James MacMillan’s new Viola Concerto, meanwhile, weds the dusky sound of the viola to orchestral writing of fiery brilliance and dark passion. Richard Farnes conducts its dedicatee, Lawrence Power.
