Organised and ran CoastGIS 2005, with many excellent presentations of global good practice in ICZM. Combination of Presentations, Workshops, Posters and Field visits. Discussion. Prime example of a mechanism to bring together different groups in ICZM.

Organised and ran CoastGIS 2005, attended by international industry practitioners and managers, NGO representatives and local politicians.Meetings and discussion with North Cornwall surf schools (tourism industry).AICSM - long-standing managerial and advisory input into SOTEAG (Shetland Oil Terminal) and St Fergus (Gas Receiving Terminal).


Inclusion of surf schools in decision making process of North Cornwall ICZM.Coastal management advice integrated into both SOTEAG and St Fergus advisory committees.

Undertake research

Issue discussed with Western Isles Council.Collaboration established with separate Aberdeen University project utilising historic weather records for assessment of impacts of climate change.


Initial approval from Western Isles Council re. risk assessment project in the Uists.Involvement in project on historic weather records agreed.Invited paper given to Society of Chief officers of Transportation in Scotland on Risk Assessment of Coastal Flooding in Scotland

Public participation & discussions with North Cornwall surf schools (local businesses) and beach users.
