St. Boniface Haiti Founda-tion

St.Boniface Haiti Foundation should be the one that receives Portland State IELP help be-cause they started working in Haiti since 1983, something that means they know really well the situa-tion of the country. Also, they have been working in little poor villages that have not received much help since the earthquake. Finally, they have been helping the Haitian people to be indepen-dent.

- In 1983, Gerald Osterman and group of 11 peo-ple.

- Then in 1984, visited Des Blancs, a rural region.

- After 3 years, Four medical teams travel to Des Blancs.

- 1988-1989, clinic enlarged for growing need.

- Therefore, in 1992, A 20 bed hospital opened.

- In 1996, for the first time U.S medical team.

- As a result of people’s need, operation room, dental clinic were opened in 2002.

- In addition, testing and treatment for HIV/AIDS were available in 2005.

- In 2006, more than 45,000 patients seen.

- In 2008, Hospital doubles in size 30 to 60 beds.
