Why did William build castles What were Williams castles like How were they like rating

William built castles so he can expand grip On English people and also built castles to stop Angry Anglo- Saxons or invaders from taking Over there land . It was sign for Norman power And English people who try to rise up will face The Norman force or soldiers . It was safe , Comfortable place for Normans to live .

His castles were weak not built very good and quickly made to avoid English from ruling the country . They were protect marvellously though by the moat and the steep on the floor which made it harder for invaders to climb up

This is a bar chart to analyse how castles are rating something out of 10 .As you can see my friend gave the highest rating for castles and my mum gave the least rating for castles

Castles were defended by outer walls curtain walls those were the first line of defence the second line was the castles features they later realised the round towers were stronger than conventional square ones

A traditional way of defeating a castle was the dig a tunnel underneath one of the towers in a castle Keep, fill the end of the tunnel with anything that Can burn and cause the tunnel and then castles Corner, to collapse .

Wood castles changed to stone castles but that took lots of workpeople and experience to do that job

They were changed by old earthworks that were used to built wooden ones

Improvements that were made was they re-

Designed the castles and changed into stone ,

Rather than wood because it was moreStronger which will hopefully will last for Approximately another 100 years and it

was More safer

They were changed because they were weak with cheap material and also could not take arrows ,siege weapons which were often available at the turn of a millennium or fire proved to be severely weak against a well- planned attack

Rochester castle is in kent and it was built in 1127 it was the best and most impressive in

12th Century it keeps a strong hold in the shape of

a Square tower in England which is 34.5m

{113ft} Tall and was the tallest castle when built in

the whole Kingdom . It is one of the oldest in England .

It was built this because William proceeded to

Build a truly mighty tower as well as he being

Exceedingly tall so therefore wanted a tall

castle

To conclude castles were changed to stone Because wood couldn't take the siege

weapons, The fire and a outstanding well- planned

attack But on the other hand stone can handle the Problem in no time .
