Planes, trains, fast cars, high-tech homes, space exploration – Stop. Rewind is a television journey that plots the most innovative 25 years in human history.

From the giant leap forward in technology from the mid-1980s to the beginning of the 21st century, Stop. Rewind explores those ideas, discoveries, breakthroughs, dead-ends and eureka moments that shaped the latter part of the 20th century and laid the groundwork for the 21st.

Stop. Rewind reflects on what the 80s and 90s generations thought the future would deliver and considers what we’ve ended up with.

Twenty-five years ago the world was a very different place – no digital, no dot-com, no cell phones, no blogs, tweets, nor many of the tech innovations that we now take for granted.

Using images shot over the past quarter century Stop. Rewind showcases the hilarious and often hapless ideas that fell by the wayside and those innovations that really were a preview into the future.

Each themed episode shows the development of a tech industry, documenting how each latched onto new technology, materials, and designs to eventually become the common gadgets, goods and services we know today.

In tonight’s opening episode Stop. Rewind looks at robots – they promised so much – but sadly it’s still a work in progress. Since the 50s we’ve been told a bold new world of robots was supposed to be around the corner – performing all those tasks no human would ever dirty themselves with.

But it’s not been through lack of trying – robots have revolutionised industry and they’ve even created robotic pets – but the ultimate aim – to create an independent, thinking, humanoid robot – is still coming…

Chanee’s wife and five-year-old son join him on a tricky mission to help a slow loris. These big-eyed primates may look cute, but they produce a toxin through the glands on the inside of their elbows, which they then rub into their teeth for added self-defence.

Meanwhile at the gibbon centre on Hampapak Island, two gibbons, Holly and Habir, which Chanee introduced to each other on a blind date, seem to be falling in love. Chanee’s expertise is working, years of studying the love-making habits of gibbons in French zoos when he was a youngster are paying off.

But not everything is going smoothly for Chanee. At a nearby town, angry villagers have engaged hunters to shoot a troublesome proboscis monkey, one of Borneo’s largest primates is running riot in their town. If Chanee can get to the large-nosed creature first, he may be able to save it and take it back to Hampapak Island.

The baffling story of young lives imprisoned by silence.

Red is eight years old... But her devoted grandparents haven’t heard her utter a word since she was born.

Ten-year-old Megan goes cheerleading every Thursday... But she doesn’t ever cheer.

And at the age of 14, Danielle was still using a whiteboard to communicate.

Each of these young girls can speak, but with most people they don’t. There is no rhyme or reason to their silence.

Selective Mutism (the consistent failure to speak in certain social situations) is a puzzling and debilitating condition. Beginning in early childhood, the disorder manifests in children who can talk, and inside the family home do talk, often quite noisily. But, in public, they are seized with an anxiety about speaking which is so acute it renders them mute.

Each of the featured children has their own pattern of who they can speak to, and who they can’t. But the pattern is baffling.

In order to overcome the condition and talk freely, Red, Megan and Danielle must confront their personal fears and anxieties about using their voices.

My Child Won't Talk joins them on the journey to find a way forward.

In the face of the problems at home created by his erratic behaviour, Walt (BryanCranston) insists that Jesse (Aaron Paul) lay low and cease any contact between them for now. In an effort to overcome Skyler’s (Anna Gunn) scepticism about his honesty, Walt works at being the model husband and father. But when he tries to concoct a cover story to explain his secrecy, and particularly why it seemed like he had a second cell phone, Skyler isn’t buying it and she storms off. And as Walt’s relationship with Skyler continues to deteriorate, things are getting worse for him and Walt, Jr. (R.J. Mitte), too.

Armed with incontrovertible evidence that he was running a drug lab in his late aunt’s house, Jesse’s parents and their lawyer order him to vacate the premises at once – and threaten him with arrest if he doesn’t. When Walt continues to insist they keep some distance between them, Jesse desperately looks to his friends for help. When no one will agree to have him, Jesse seeks refuge in the mobile drug lab he stashed in a towing yard owned by Badger’s brother. But after accidentally crashing through the roof of a portable toilet brings him face to face with an angry Clovis, Jesse has no choice but to steal the RV and its valuable contents. Meanwhile, Walt’s effort to use a driving lesson to reconnect with his son ends in disaster.

One moonlight night in Texas hill country during the 1890s U.S. Marshal Howard Nightingale and his six-man elite posse execute a typical mission. They annihilate the train-robbing Strawhorn Gang which has holed up in an abandoned barn. Betrayed by a bribed member, five men die in gunfire and flames, outlaw Jack Strawhorn warned by instinct, escapes.

Nightingale, apparently dedicated to law and order, is actually publicising himself on a scale unique to the politics of the time. His posters convey his ultimate ambition: NIGHTINGALE FOR U.S. SENATOR.

At Tesota, an established town in rich ranch country, Strawhorn slays his Judas, the traitorous gang member Pensteman. Resisting arrest, Strawhorn shoots dedicated Sheriff Buwalda, who dies in full view of craven citizens.

Two hours later Nightingale’s train steams in, unloading its commander and his splendidly uniformed mounted posse. Trying to gloss over its cowardice, Tesota cheers the arrival.

Hellman, more realistic, reminds Nightingale that his Senate seat is hinging on Strawhorn’s capture.

Directed by Kirk Douglas, Posse stars Kirk Douglas and Bruce Dern.
