Abandoned

These images were taken in and around abandoned churches inLincolnshire. The countryside can then creep into the images andmake them take on an etheral feeling. This image,I played around with the depth of field to create a more interesting viewpoint and outlook. I used a flash because the natural lighting was coming fromthe wrong direction. The darkness of the background draws the viewerto the focal poinnt of the foreground. The twig in the foreground adds mystery and makes the overall image look eerie.

I kept this image in colour to show the lighting in the image more profoundly, i decided to just use natural lighting in this image so the viewer cant be distracted from the main source of light which is the focus point. I love the texture of this image; it is definitely a strong feature of the photograph. The texture helps give the sense of abandonment and the stark bareness of the church.

Artificial Lighting was used to create this image. It was fairly darkinside the church as oppossed to outside. I like this image for thereason of the shadows cast from the bare window panes. I changedimage from colour into monochrome because it adds mystery anddarkness which is what my theme portrays.

TFor this image I used the natural light source because it was bright enoughand I didn’t want the image to be too harsh in brightness and tone. Sidelighting was apparent due to the time of day and this gave the shadowswhich I find make the image more interesting and beautiful in addition to more haunting. The fact that it is in monochrome helps too because itreinforces that it’s a 19th Century gravestone. I think this image looks likeit could be a film still from an old horror film.

Again Natural lighting was used for this shot. I like that the foregroundand background have sunlight on them but the focal point has none. I think this because it intensifies that it is an abandoned grave. Usually for photogaphs it is the other way around with the focal point with all the light. I like that it’s overgrown and from further away it is hard todistinguish whether there is anything there.

I decided to use natual lighting instead of using a flash to make it slightly more brighter because of my theme and the atmoshere it creates. I think a lack of light provides the shot with more intensityand atmoshere. I love this image; I think it’s an extremely beautifulscene with the huge trees overlooking and shadowing the abadonedgraves. I like how the leaves are covering the graves as this shows they haven’t been seen too for years. Also, I really like the contrastbetween light and dark in this image; I think it’s very poetic.
