Voluntary Blood Donation and COVID Convalescent Plasma (CCP) Donation
program on the National Mourning Day-15th
August 2020
Organized by: Department of Transfusion Medicine, BSMMU, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
15th August 2020, The National Mourning Day is the most tragic event for
Bengali nation. Whole nation observed this day marking as 45th death
anniversary of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Like every year, Department of Transfusion Medicine, Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) observed this day. This year Department
of Transfusion Medicine, observed this day in different way as COVID-19
pandemic situation is went through. In this situation Department of transfusion
medicine arranged awareness program regarding voluntary blood donation
during COVID-19 pandemic situation as well as inauguration program of
COVID convalescent plasma (CCP) donation which is used as a treatment
option of critical COVID 19 affected patients.
This program was held in Milton Hall, B block, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib
Medical University premises. Honourable state minister of information,
communication & technology Junaid Ahmed Polok MP inaugurated this
program as chief guest. Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Kanak Kanti Borua
presided over the program. Pro VC (Education) Prof. Sahana A Rahman, Pro
VC (administration) Prof. Rafiqul Alam, Chairman of Department of
Transfusion Medicine Prof. Ayesha Khatun, President of Sandhani central
committee Tanvir Hasan Iqbal, Asso. Prof. Atiar Rahman, Assist. Prof. Sheikh
Saiful Islam Shaheen, Assist Prof. Farah Anjum, Assist Prof. Sonia Shormin
Miah attended this program.
Along with other hospital staff and staff of the department of transfusion
medical officers Dr. Khan Anisul Islam, Dr. Fatema Easmin, Dr. Feroza
Begum, Dr. Waliul Islam, Dr. Subarna Saha, all residents & post graduated
students also attended this program gracefully.
All the learned speaker memories the greatest scarifies of the Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibor Rahman for the Bengali Nation and appeal to all for
donated blood voluntarily on this auspicious day as well other national,
international day including their birth day and marriage day.
President of the organized program Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Kanak Kanti
Borua addressed in the meeting regarding the importance of the day as well as
supreme sacrifice of the father of the nation and appeal to all for donation of blood
donation voluntarily maintain social distance, hand hygiene and coughs etiquette
regularly including COVID- Convalescent plasma (CCP) donation.
Chief guest of the distinguish program Honourable state minister of
information, communication & technology Junaid Ahmed Polok MP in his
inaugural speech address to all for donating blood voluntarily specially
those who are COVID-convalescent plasma (CCP)donor during this
COVID-19-Pandemic situation to safe the life of the critically ill COVID-19
positive patient. He also appeals to all for maintaining social distance, hand
hygiene and coughs etiquette during all sort of work, during using public
transport and others.
COVID-Convalescent plasma donation is a research program jointly
organized by the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Department of
Internal Medicine and Department of Public Health & informatics. Determination of neutralizing IgG antibody detection and titration
will be done by the Department of microbiology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka Bangladesh. According to
WHO-Guideline COVID-convalescent plasma (CCP) therapy will be initiated by the department of transfusion medicine with the
help of relevant clinical department for patient management, monotiring as well as clinical evaluation.
Finally the program was very successful & meaningful to all.

Celebration of National Voluntary Blood Donation & Eye Donation Day- 2020, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
2nd November 2020 has been observed as “National Voluntary Blood Donation & Eye Donation Day” across the country. In
this year the main theme of the day was ‘My blood will bring hundreds new life; Eye donation make the vision shine in the blind eyes’. For celebrating the day, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh
organized an inaugural and discussion program in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) premises
(Auditorium, Block-A, 2nd Floor) with the collaboration with Sandhani Central Committee and Sandhani National Eye Donation Society. A single lined ‘Human chain stand with play card in hand’ was introduced in this day before starting the
inaugural program in the front road of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University inaugurated by the Inaugural Guest
Dr. Dipu Moni, Ministers, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

program as inaugural speaker as well as inaugural guest.
The inaugural program and discussion session was started at 2.00 PM
on the day. At the beginning, inaugural speech was given by the
Inaugural Guest, Dr. Dipu Moni, Ministers, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. She briefly
narrates the history of starting of Sandhani, a medical and dental
student base voluntary blood donor recruitment organization and their activities. She also emphasis and appeal all to continue the voluntary blood donation & eye donation program. Welcome speech was given by Prof. Dr. Md. Tosaddek Hossain Siddiqi,
President, Sandhani National Eye Donation Society; Mr. Mirza Minhajul Islam, General Secretary, Sandhani Central Committee; Dr. Md. Joynul Islam,
Secretary General, Sandhani National Eye Donation Society and Mr. Tanvir Hasan Iqbal, President, Sandhani Central Committee.
Secretary, Ministry of Health Education & Family Welfare Mr. Md. Ali
Noor; Vice Chancellor, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof. Dr. Kanak Kanti Barua and Director General, Directorate General of
Health Services Prof. Dr. Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam were
present as special guest. Along with other dignitaries President & General Secretary of Sandhani Central Committee were present in the Dias. The
program was presided over by Mr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Honorable
Secretary, Health Service Division, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
-Special guest of the discussion meeting Secretary, Ministry of Health
Education & Family Welfare Mr. Md. Ali Noor address in the discussion meeting for donating blood voluntarily to all who are eligible for blood
donation. Another special guest Vice Chancellor, Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujib Medical University Prof. Dr. Kanak Kanti Barua delivered his speech in such a way that as neurosurgeon he always feels the importance
of voluntary blood donation and appeal to all for donating blood voluntarily at least once in a year in their birth day.
Director General, Directorate General of Health Services Prof. Dr. Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam were present as special guest in the discussion meeting and said that he donated 23
times in his last life time as well as first voluntary blood donor of Sandhani Sir Somlimullah
Medical College Unit. In his speech he hopes to continue the program as it is a National Program.
Before the speech of the Chief Guest, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare,
Mr. Zahid Maleque, MP the President of the discussion meeting Mr. Md. Abdul Mannan, honorable Secretary, Health Service Division, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare thanks all guest, special
guest, dignitaries, all participants to attend the meeting as well as thanks to all press & electronic
media to cover this news in broader sense and made overall awareness across the country for voluntary blood donation movement in the country.
In his inaugural and discussion meeting the Chief Guest, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Mr. Zahid Maleque, MP address to all for donating blood voluntarily in their birth
day, marriage anniversary as well as all national and international day and hope to continue the
program and involve all those who are really relevant to the program. He then concluded the program by thanking all again.

(International) and Member, Executive Committee, AATM- Bangladesh Chapter were present in the inaugural and discussion
program as invited guest/participants.
Medical Officers, Residents, Post-graduate Students, Nurses and other Staffs present in the program along with 500 hundred participants from Sandhani,
Badhan, Red Crescent, Quantum, Medical Club etc. Moreover, the program provides lots of information & positive impact to people regarding blood donation & eye donation. It was very successful & meaningful program indeed.

Voluntary Blood Donation Program of 14th
December- 2020, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Martyred Intellectuals Day (Shaheed Buddhijibi Dibosh) is observed on 14 December in Bangladesh to commemorate
those intellectuals who were killed by Pakistani solder & their collaborators during the liberation war, 1971. For
honoring this day Department of Transfusion Medicine, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has
organized a “Free Blood Grouping & Voluntary Blood Donation Program” at BSMMU premises.
Program started at 9:00 AM as per program schedule of the said program of the university. Honorable chairman of
Department of transfusion medicine, BSMMU Prof. Ayesha Khatun; Additional Registrar, Ex-Chairman and Vice-
president- AATM International from Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Md. Ashadul Islam; Associate Prof. Dr. Atiar Rahman;
Assistant Prof. Dr. Sheikh Saiful Islam Shaheen; Assistant Prof. Dr. Sonia Shormin Miah; Assistant Prof. Dr. Farah
Anjum Sonia; Dr. Khan Anisul Islam; Dr. Waliul Islam; Dr. Fatema Easmine; all residents & post graduate students
were present.
In her speech Honorable chairman of Department of transfusion medicine, BSMMU Prof. Ayesha Khatun appeal all
healthy peoples to come forward and donate blood voluntarily for thalassaemia, haemophilia, aplastic anaemia and
other patients who needed blood during this Corona Monoester and COVID-19 Pandemic situation. Additional
Registrar, Ex-Chairman and Vice-president- AATM International from Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Md. Ashadul Islam said in
the program that the target of World Health Organization (WHO) is 100% this year, but in our country it only 34%. He
appeal to all healthy peoples to donate blood voluntarily at least once a year in their next birth day ,marriage day,
National Voluntary Blood Donor Day and other National & international Day. He said that this will fulfill the need of
blood demand of country & discuss the reason of donation of blood voluntarily for their own interest and belonging.
The program was monitored & conducted by Dr. Nadia Sharmin Trisa, Blood program officer & Mr. Subrata Biswas,
Councilor; Mr. Imran, Medical technologist (Lab), Mr. Rakib, Medical technologist (Lab), Sharif Mia, Sanjoy Halder
& other staffs participated actively in this program.
Later Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kanak Kanti Barua formally inaugurated the program and handover the donor
card & souvenir as a part of encouragement to a donor and appeal to all to donate blood in their next birth day as well
other national and international day & continue it on regular basis.
Total five voluntary donors donated their blood voluntarily & 50 blood grouping was performed in this program by
maintaining Social/Physical distance, Hand washing and Wearing Mask. The donors got donor card & souvenir as a
part of encouragement.
Moreover, the program was very delightful & successful to all.

Voluntary Blood Donation Program on Victory Day- 16th December, 2020 at Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Victory Day is a national holiday in Bangladesh celebrated on
December 16th to commemorate the victory of the allied forces
over the Pakistani forces in the Bangladesh Liberation War in
1971. For celebrating this day Department of Transfusion
Medicine, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University
(BSMMU) has organized a “Free Blood Grouping & Voluntary
Blood Donation Program” at BSMMU premises.
This Program was inaugurated by honorable Vice Chancellor Prof.
Kanak Kanti Barua. Pro-VC (Academic)- Prof. Shahana Akhter
Rahman, Pro-VC (Administration)- Prof. Rafiqul Alam, Pro-VC
(Research & Development)- Prof. Mohd. Zahid Hussain, Proctor-
Prof. Syed Mozaffar Ahmed, Director Hospital- Brigadier General
Dr. Zukfiqur Ahmed and Registrar- Prof ABM Abdul Hannan
were present in the inaugural program.

The program was that conducted by Proctor Prof. Syed Mozaffar Ahmed. In his speech Director Hospital, Brigadier General Dr.
Zukfiqur Ahmed said, blood donation is a novel act and appeal to all for donating blood voluntarily as there is no other alternative to
blood, only source of blood is from Human donor. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research & Development)- Prof. Mohd. Zahid Hussain
briefly discusses the tremendous development of the present government and said that as Chairman, Department of Paediatric
Cardiology if he runs the department smoothly it will bring benefit for the patient and if Department of Transfusion Medicine runs
well with full strength then it will also put benefit for the donor and patients or blood recipients. He urges peoples to donate blood
voluntarily at least at least once a year in their next birth day ,marriage day, National Voluntary Blood Donor Day and other National
& international Day. Honorable vice chancellor Prof. Kanak Kanti Barua formally inaugurated the program and handover the donor
card & souvenir as a part of encouragement to a donor. He express his own blood donation history in the program as well as the need
or importance of voluntary blood donation as legend Neurosurgeon in this region and appeal to all to donate blood for thalassaemia,
haemophilia, aplastic anaemia, surgery, trauma, bleeding and other patients who needed blood during this Corona Monoester and
COVID-19 Pandemic situation and continue it on regular basis.

Total 10 voluntary donors donated their blood & 100 blood grouping was performed in this program by maintaining Social/Physical
distance, Hand Washing and Wearing mask. The donors got donor card & souvenir as a part of encouragement.
