WELCOME FROM YOUR AASFAA PRESIDENT

Hello my AASFAA friends!

The AASFAA Executive Board and I welcome you to the 2021-22 Fall Conference at The Battle House in Mobile. This year’s theme ‘AL Together’ is all about the AASFAA family being able to come together and celebrate what we do. This conference has been three years in the making

Last year President Stephen said in our virtual conference “This has been an extremely difficult year for us all as we try to navigate our new normal”. However, through everyone’s hard work, dedication, and sense of perseverance we have been able to continue to serve our students and colleagues, even though it may be vastly different than how we have in the past. While we look forward to the future and the time, we will all be able to gather in person again, we will use this opportunity to meet virtually and learn how to better serve our students. These words are still ringing true for this year, 2021-2022; as we are still trying to find the new “normal”. Will we be live? Will we be virtual? What do we say and do?

In financial aid, we deal with change all the time. Most of us are “change agents” we see something and we “fix it” or someone somewhere always seems to have a better idea. Where were you when verification changed this summer? That was a very positive change for our students, for some of us it helped our enrollments. Getting rid of enrollment barriers must be the focus of our new and ever evolving policies and procedures. So, for Financial Aid, the new normal will not be static it will be ever changing. We strive to do our best for all our constituents, which include our students.

I am grateful for all those who have contributed to making this conference a success, some have been

at it three years (go Audrey 😊). Everyone who has ‘chipped’ in I say thank you on behalf of the Board

and myself.

Please enjoy yourselves, above all else eat the food, we have enough for everyone. Come to the President’s Reception, you should not be disappointed. Enjoy Mobile, take time to walk around, it is a scenic downtown and Mobile has many interesting sites.

Can’t wait to see you all.

Dr. James Theeuwes

AASFAA President, 2021-2022

WELCOME FROM YOUR AASFAA PRESIDENT-ELECT AASFAA Family,

We are so excited to welcome everyone to the Battle House Hotel & Spa, for our Fall 2021 AASFAA Conference. We are thankful for this great conference agenda that our Conference Committee have prepared for us this year and are looking forward to a great week of training and networking.

We are looking forward to all coming back together after the events of last year. I am excited about serving AASFAA and meeting those of you I have not met and enjoying this week with my AASFAA family.

AASFAA has given me the opportunity to grow, learn and network with some of the best in the business. Throughout my years in AASFAA, I have connected with many individuals when one of us needed help. It’s so nice to be a part of an organization whose members will drop everything to help someone in need.

I appreciate AASFAA and the personal and professional growth it has afforded me, and I encourage each one of you to continue being involved! I am thankful that each one of you are a part of this organization. Without you, AASFAA would not be the great organization that it is.

If you need anything during the conference, please let me know.

Thank you for coming.

Angela Smith

AASFAA President Elect, 2021-2022
