The exceptional extra mural achievements over the past few months have been inspirational and lled me with overwhelming pride! There is no better moment than being congratulated by visiting parents or principals commenting on the behaviour and performances of our learners. Well done to each Woerie, coach, teacher, parent and supporter. We value your input, passion, dedication and hard work and I sincerely would like to express my thanks and appreciation.

On the academic side, we also experienced an improvement. A comparison of the beginning of the year’s results to that of 2018, shows an increase of 5% in the overall general marks. I believe that this is a result of the continuous effort by management and staff to have less absent learners and to drive punctuality, not only at the beginning of the day, but also during lesson times. We would really appreciate the support of all our parents in this matter. Academic time is not negotiable in our strive for a 100% pass rate.

The choir continues to be true ambassadors of our school and holds the WOERIE name high! They achieved an A++ at the ATKV regionals and will compete in the Nationals in July.

We had a very good winter season with many sport teams winning their respective leagues. It is often

hard to remember that it is ordinary learners who achieve such honours. Ons was gelukkig om slegs me Frané Jacobs op die personeel te moes groet. Haar plek is gevul deur me Elize Opperman in die Afrikaans-departe-ment en sy rig ook sagtebal af.

The school once again had an overwhelming number of applications to process for the new admissions for 2020. A special word of thanks to the administrative and security staff for facilitating this process so smoothly and effectively. We keep on striving to offer top quality education and as many extended opportunities as possible.

School nances remain challenging. We want to urge each parent to diligently make school fee payments each month as the smooth running of the school can not happen without your input. Thank you so much to those of you who make this responsibility a priority. We also want to thank all parents for their support in the Dream Big fundraiser. Baie dankie ook aan me De Beer en haar span vir al die harde administratiewe werk.

I would like to thank the SGB chairperson, Ms Olga Veldsman, for her professional and dedicated assistance in the name change process of the school.

Vimbai Magwedere Ashlynn Taylor Michelle Longueira Luvuyo HlopheCape Town in July! What a great experience. We enjoyed a wide range of activities from visiting a colony of penguins at Boulders, an exhausting hike at Cape Point, a trip to Seal Island on a very rough sea, playing with monkeys at World of Birds in Hout Bay and of course “shopping” at N1 City. The learners tasted chocolate at the Huguenot chocolate factory in Franschhoek and also learned a lot about the production of wine at the Neethlingshof Wine Estate.

A highlight was denitely going up Table Mountain with the cable car in icy weather and ending the day on a warm note at the Gold restaurant with traditional African dancers.

Thank you so much to the parents and sponsors who made this experience of a lifetime possible. Baie dankie ook aan die leerders wat hulle soos ‘Ware Woeries’ gedra het en met entoesiasme aan al die aktiwiteite deelgeneem het.

Term 2 TOP 10 The Woerie choir has performed excellently in the last few months. At the annual Eisteddfod held in May at Laerskool Tygerpoort the Choir was awarded an A++ certicate and crowned as overall winner in the merit section.

Competing choirs in this section were Akasia , Cornwall Hill College, Eldoraigne, Garsfontein, Oos-Moot, Overkruin and numerous others.

We hosted our own choir festival on 4 May and stunned the audience with the repertoire. The culmination of the hard work was being awarded a GOLD certicate at the ATKV regional competition, placing the choir in the top FIVE choirs in the country! Eighty nine choirs competed in this section.

The choir has now advanced to the National nal choir competition in Bloemfontein during the weekend of 25 to 27 July.
