ART AGAINST KNIVES + MOTHER DRUCKER present lsquoAs the crow fliesrsquo

Art Against Knives is proud to present lsquoAs the Crow Fliesrsquo a straightforward print show aiming to highlight the direct lines between visionary urban art and fine production silk screen print-ing The exhibition showcases the work of a variety of European urban artists Various amp Gould Penny Dolly Demoratti Anton Unai Elmar Lause Victor Ash Hannah Parr and Nomad Organised in partnership with Berlin-based gallery Mother Drucker lsquoAs the Crow Fliesrsquo is a per-fect example of a creative collaboration between an established and exciting business and the AAK Gallery AAKrsquos first public space has been carefully designed to facilitate the communica-tion between the creative industries that thrive in east London and the young people that live there

Not only do all proceeds from all of our sales go straight back into funding the youth-led crea-tive opportunities that AAK provides for young people in the local area we also use the gallery space as a meeting point and platform for young people to involve them with the new development on their doorstep The creative opportunities that AAK provides for young people across east London focus on devel-oping skills and providing insights that can be transferred into the working world The prints by established artists in the lsquoAs the Crow Fliesrsquo exhibition will be exhibited alongside framed prints created by young people that took part in the AAK printing workshops that took place dur-ing February half term as part of Discover Young Hackney Limited edition prints will be on show and available for purchase at the AAK Gallery at Box-park Shoreditch from Thursday 1st- 29th March 2012 with donations being made to AAK from every print sale

ART AGAINST KNIVESBorn from the unprovoked stabbing of Oliver Hemsely a 21-year-old student from Central Saint Martinrsquos AAK works to reduce the root causes of knife crime through arts initiatives that pro-vide an alternative to violent gang culture

Since their initial hugely successful art auction in 2009 the charity has flourished and now has a great permanent gallery space at Boxpark - the worldrsquos first pop-up mall AAK sells affordable artwork priced from pound20 - pound500 donated by established artists as well as students and emerging talent AAK is supported amongst others by Tracey Emin Christopher Kane Antony Gormley Gilbert amp George Hussein Chalayan Wolfgang Tillmans Marios Schwab Banksy Gareth Pugh Tim Walker Central Saint Martinrsquos the Princersquos Trust the Home Ordquoce and the Mayor of London ldquoAs a Hackney-based business we are all too aware of the gang violence that exists within our borough It is important for us to be involved with Art Against Knives as it is a worthwhile cause that fosters artistic growth and creativity within our communityrdquo - Christopher Kane MOTHER DRUCKER A print house and gallery based in Kreuzberg Berlin here they work with a wide range of art-ists to produce high quality limited edition silkscreen prints They release work on their web-site and organise a range of shows and events They also offer an out of house screen- printing service and screen printing courses in English
