PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Members and Friends, It has been six months since our last newsletter and I must say it has been quite an eventful six months – our membership has grown , our social functions have attracted most of our members and their friends, from all cultural backgrounds. The functions were organized by our dedicated Committee and the feedback has been positive. Even our Coach Trip was a great success with request for an encore. It was great to see so many of senior members attending our functions!! In this time, we have had 30 new members join us and more have expressed an interest in joining our Melbourne Rangers Club. I welcome them on behalf of AAI MRC. We are now in the second half of the year, 2013, and I can assure you that we have a lot to enjoy. On July 20 th is our very own Calcutta Nite, also known as “The Bollywood Dance”, at the Gaelic Park at Keysborough – this dance I can assure you will be an absolute sell out, I would advise you to buy your tickets and book your tables early. The famous band - “Next Generation” and the best Bollywood dance troupe “The Bollywood Dazzlers” will entertain you. There will also be Hawker Style food on sale plus lots of prizes and surprises. Tickets are on sale now. By popular demand the Hopper Night is back on 30th August with a few rounds of Bingo. We are introducing an Anglo-Indian Social Night to be held on 25 th October– a fun night with Ball Curry, Tomato rice and Devil Chutney. In December (7 th ), we have a Members Christmas Evening – BBQ with Santa Claus – gifts for the kids supplied by their parents , and all Senior members are invited to a special evening. This is followed with the Gala New Years Eve Ball on 31 st December at the beautiful Hungarian Club Hall in Wantirna – a great venue, a great band “Coda Mix” accompanied by our very own “Mr. Sax”, Glaxton Saunders, plus more. Gloria and I visit Calcutta after 45 years and also attended the World Anglo Indian Reunion in Calcutta in January 2013. The Reunion was a great success, we now look forward to the next Reunion in Sydney in 2016. To us it was a real eye opener!! It took us a couple of days to see the change in ourselves and our reaction to the same old Calcutta. The Anglo-Indian in Calcutta, like Calcutta, are the same, but we have changed and needed to adjust to them. Then the nostalgia set in, and we enjoyed the company of the locals, we enjoyed the food on the streets, the restaurants and the functions. We even acquired 50-60 nieces and nephews. My advice to all of you is – Be Considerate towards others – Have Fun - Life Is Too Short. Sam Bamford ABN 56126001301 July, 2013 A.A.I.
