Gurnee Frosty Fest - 20th January 2012

The Gurnee Frosty Fest was an interesting & unusual event to say the least!! The event was scheduled to beginat 5:30 Friday evening, while most everyone was sitting in traffic somewhere in the middle of a snow storm! But the residents of Gurnee didn't let that stop them -- the parking lots were all full!!

I really, really want to thank our intrepid volunteers who braved the weather and the roads to help make thisevent a success: Kevin L., Sarah L., Pat M., & Tammie V. Some of these volunteers live in the area while othertraveled several hours to get there. Did I mention how much we love our volunteers??? They went above &beyond to be there!

Let's not forget to thank our dog sled teams & mushers: Mary Beth K. and the dogs of Frozen Tundra and MikeR. and the Z Team. The dog sled teams are the the attraction that draws people in and then they get to meetour wonderful foster dogs. For this event, we had both Selena & Cookie were on hand for ear scratches & petting in the hopes of finding a furever home. Cookie, of course, is an experienced sled dog now, and washappy to show Selena how it's done. It was Selena's first time on a team, and (no big surprise) she's a natural! So who's looking to add to their team???

This is one our 'smaller' events, but we had a lot of people who came to see us, now on to MortonArboretum!!!

Husky Heroes, Morton Arboretum - 28-29th January 2012

We would like to personally thank each and every volunteer whomade this event happen whether you were part of the sled team, foster transporter, trail help, foster walker, setup/teardown, sales,information/education, presenters, sled pictures and all the otherjobs that needed to be done, we really appreciate all of yourefforts and couldn’t have done it without you. We would like tosend out a special thank you to all of our volunteers who werenew to this event and hope that you will join us at future events.A very special thank you goes out to all of the sledding and fosterdogs who endured thousands of hands petting them eachday…they are a true testament to what this breed is all about. There were about 45 volunteers and 30 dogs each day thatendured the crowds.

Our teams were running, the fosters were walking, the merchandise was selling, the pictures were being taken, thereporters were getting their stories, the volunteers were talking and the crowds were

coming. Although this year we had less than ideal weather conditions with bitter cold winds and a lack of snow around 7,500people still came to support us. This is a much larger number thanboth the Morton employees and Adopt A Husky were expecting.

Some special thank woos go out to the following volunteers whocame out all 3 days: Mike & Deb R., Nora & John T., Tammie V., Joli J., Mike & Beth F. and Mario B. We would also like to send ahuge thank you to many of the volunteers who braved the cold fortwo days this weekend. So thank you once again for everyone’s helpin making this a hugely successful weekend. I would like to personally thank everyone by name but I am afraid that I would miss someone.

Every volunteer should be proud of the contributionsthey made to save the lives of homeless SiberianHuskies this weekend. This organization has the bestgroup of volunteers ever found…you are awesome!!!

The Morton employees and volunteers have given ustons of compliments because of our professionalism, dedication and enthusiasm and have told us onnumerous occasions that we are one of the bestgroups they work with which is quite a complement.

Brrrrrr!!!!! There must be a better word than 'cold' or 'frigid' to describe the conditions at the Bartlett Winterfest. But as always, our intrepid volunteers wore alltheir layers and braved the temperatures to help make sure the event was a success. Of course, we didn't hear any complaints from any of the dogs...! Fosterdogs Avalance, Selena, Shawnee, Midnight, Nikko & Sprite were all on hand tomeet the people and win the hearts of everyone they met (including some of thevolunteers!). A huge Thank You to both the foster homes & transporters who madesure our fosters were able to be there and meet so many potential adopters: KevinL. Mario & Angel B., Mike & Beth F., Leslie L. & Sarah L. -- You are the best!!

To the volunteers who came out to help wherever they were needed: information, foster walkers, & trail help: the Miller family, Bryan M., Ed & Donna C., Rebecca T.,Valerie S., Cheryl R., & Craig & Annette S. And lets not forget about the teams thatwere on hand to do the demos: Noel D., Jason & Chantale S., Joli J., Paul & Phyllis D., Mike R., and Sue S. The dogsall ran wonderfully, as they always do! Special thanks to Mike D. who put on a wonderful presentation for the visitorsindoors to learn more about the Iditarod & dog sledding. It was a great way for visitors to warm up a little while learninga lot. Mike puts a lot of effort into his presentation and it's always very impressive!

I have to give a very heartfelt & special thank you to one volunteer in particular: Kevin L. is always ready to volunteer atour events, but he went above and beyond for this one! Kevin not only transported 3 foster dogs, but absolutely spearheaded all of the trail help for this event. He efforts insured that the teams went out in an orderly manner and thatthe volunteers were where they needed to be at the right times. We couldn't have done this without you, Kevin!!We always have opportunities for volunteers at our events (not all of them involve standing outside in frigid temperatures!).

We would love to see more of you, so please don't hesitate tostep up! Be sure to watch our Calendar of Events and watch youre-mail for our upcoming activities - no experience is required! It'sa great way to get involved, and to meets a lot of other volunteers!!
