Tiffin box is case or the box to carry and to port the eatables anywhere. Tiffin is a
food carrier or a kind of lunch box extensive used in India for porting meals.
They are widely used in Singapore, Brazil, Indonesia and Malaysia as well.
Outside India, they are known as leveled bowls or travel bowls at certain
locations. They are also used widely in Hungary, primarily in order to ship
restaurant cheap midday meals for consumption at home throughout the day. The
Hungarian word for a tiffin box is food carrier. The tiffin case may contain two to
three carriers/tiers. The more elaborate edition may have four tiers.
The bottom tier, the largest being, is the one usually used for rice. Tiffin carriers
are opened by unlocking a tiny hold on either side of the handle. The Hungarian
version may contain a soup, a piece of cake and the main course of lunch. In
Mumbai, an efficient and complicated delivery system that regularly delivers hot
lunch boxes packed in specific cases to the office workers from their caterer or
suburban homes. It uses delivery workers known as popular tiffin service
providers. These providers are assigned to commute everyday to dispatch the
lunch boxes wherever required. The task is to deliver the cases on timely basis
without any time hit.
Tiffin carriers are generally made out of steel and sometimes of aluminum, but
enamel and plastic versions have been made by European companies. They are
able to keep food warm for at least three to four hours. Tiffin is a type of cake like
confection consisted of crushed and digestive biscuits. Tiffin is an English slang
term of lunch second breakfast, sometimes applicable for any sort of light meal. It
is originated in British India, and is today found across the entire India. The word
originated when Indian custom superseded the British practice of an afternoon
tea, leading to a new word for the afternoon meal. It is derived from the outdated
English slang tiffing.
The meaning of tiffin is taking as a little drink or sip. When it started to use
lunches, indicated it as light meal.Tiffin often consists of rice, dal, curry,
vegetables, chapatis or spicy meals. These meals may include noodles, the South
Indian food, continental dishes, deserts like kheer or halwa etc. The meals are
packed in such a systematic way that its supply should not hamper its delivery
time. In addition, the lunch boxes are referred as tiffin carriers or suppliers.
