PREHISTORYPrehistory is the longest period in history. It is divided into three periods:

Palaeolithic Age Neolithic Age Metal Ages

•They lived in caves or huts.•They hunted with tools made of stone or animal bones.•They ate raw food until they discovered fire.

•People started farming.•They built the first villages.•They created tools made of polished stone.

•People learned to make objects of metal.•To find these metals, people built towns.•Trade was important because of the invention of the wheel and the plough.

ANCIENT TIMESAncient history came after Prehistory. It

started about 5,500 years ago . We can divide it into:

Celts

Iberians

•In Pre-Roman times, the Iberian Peninsula was inhabited by two groups of people: the Iberians and the Celts.•The Greeks were the first colonizers that came to the Iberian Peninsula 3,000 years ago. •The Phoenicians came from Asia about 2,600 years ago.•The Carthaginians came from the north of Africa to the Iberian Peninsula about 2,300 years ago. •The Romans and the Carthaginians fought each other in the Punic Wars. In 218.B.C. They conquered the Peninsula in 19 b.c.

MODERN TIMES-The 12th October, 1492, Cristóbal Colón discovered the American

continent. The Spanish sailor, who was trying to arrive to India around the African continent, got lost and discovered this new land by accident. -The 2nd January, 1492, the Catholic Kings (Isabel la Católica and Fernando el Católico) conquered the Arabian Kingdom of Granada, and threw out the Muslims from the Iberian Peninsula once and for all.

- 1512: Fernando II conquer the Kingdom of Navarra. - 1605: Miguel de Cervantes publishes “Don Quijote de la Mancha”. - 1713: after 13 years of war, Felipe V is the first Borbon king, ancestor of our king Felipe VI. - 1789: tired of the absolutist kings, the French people began the French Revolution, putting an end to the Modern Times.

CONTEMPORARY TIMESWe are living right now in the Contemporary Times.

Some of the most important things that happened in these times are: -1812: end of the French Invasion. The first Spanish Constitution is written in Cádiz.

-1936-1939: Francisco Franco declared the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, that ended the 1st of April 1939.

-1939 – 1975: Spain lived under a dictatorship, driven by Francisco Franco.

-1978: Spain approved the Spanish Constitution, which is the one we have nowadays. Juan Carlos I is the first king after the dictatorship.

-2014: Juan Carlos I stepped down as king of Spain.

- 2014: Felipe VI is the new king of Spain, the one we have nowadays.
