Museum Director Judy Kean said the exhibition had inherited its name from a match book souvenir dating back to the 1950s that beared the slogan ‘Banana Jim, Full of Vim’. “I have been asked a number of times what the word ‘vim’ means, and it simply means ‘vitality’,” Ms Kean said. “We’re particularly looking forward to showing ‘Movietone News’ footage of the 1956 Banana Festival borrowed from the National Film and Sound Archive. “There will be a double celebration on Saturday 29 August where the Museum will open especially to mark the occasions of the 60th Festival Parade and the first anniversary of the Tweed Regional Museum Murwillumbah’s reopening on Parade day last year,” she said. “We’re planning a whole bunch of activities on the day; children and the young at heart are invited to join in the celebration by decorating their own Festival memorabilia and watching the passing parade. The purpose of the study was to provide a summary of key coastal processes, identify and discuss hazard management options and to ensure the preservation of the area, which has a history of severe coastal erosion. Council’s Natural Resource Management Unit Coordinator, Jane Lofthouse, said Council had been developing hazard management options for Kingscliff’s foreshore for several years. “Recommended steps include re-establishing a coastal dune along the foreshore of Faulks Park and Lions Park, strengthening the existing rock wall at the Holiday Park, modifying the vertical seawall in front of Cudgen Surf Life Saving Club to increase its stability and constructing the Central Park and amenities associated with the Kingscliff Foreshore Masterplan,” Ms Lofthouse said. “One of the advantages of these recommendations is that it does not lock Council or the community into long- term, high-cost hazard management options,” she said. “Council also resolved to develop the comprehensive Dreamtime Beach Coastal Zone Management Plan, which will outline the detailed staging of works and associated financing options.” Once developed to draft stage, the Coastal Zone Management Plan will be subject to extensive community consultation and engagement.
