Birthday tribute A tribute to Professor Marzio Marseguerra on the occasion of his 70th birthday These few notes aim at celebrating in his seventieth birthday Marzio Marseguerra, the scientist, the researcher, the mentor and most of all, the man. Professor Marzio Marseguerra was born in Rome on 21 May 1931. After com- pleting his engineering studies at the age of 23, he obtained the specialization in nuclear physics and applied nuclear physics from Rome University, in 1956 and 1957, respectively. From 1957 to 1980 he has served at the Italian National Com- mittee for Nuclear Energy, CNEN (nowadays ENEA). At the same time, his desire for free research and for mentoring the young ones has led him to qualify for Uni- versity teaching in 1967. He has then served as Lecturer of Reactor Physics at the University of Bologna from 1967 to 1969 and as Professor of Fundamentals of Nuclear Physics at the University of Modena from 1969 to 1980. In 1980 he was appointed the chair of Nuclear Reactor Physics at the Polytechnic of Milan, thus resigning from CNEN.
