analysisBy: Anzar

Page 2: A second a day

Introduction• A young girl's life gets turned upside-down in a tragic

second a day video. We watch her life go from a normal, loved and cared child to a neglected and upset individual. The start shows her happiness, the end shows her sadness, this video immediately makes us take into consideration on how we live our life because like her anything can change from happiness to sadness. The one second clips are short but powerful it builds a bigger picture in our heads.

Mise-En-Scene

• We can see multiple things around her and we can clearly see the location she's at even though the clips are 1 second. The main locations are her house, school, hospital and even her on the road. We can just see a how a normal girl would live her life until the whole scene turns upside down. The main location her is her house. The main location her is a hospital or a care home.

Page 4: A second a day

• We can see the happiness on her face, she is shown love by her family and friends around her. A close up shot to show her facial expression. The candles on her cake could suggest that she is surrounded by multiple people who show her love and care for her. On the other hand we can see that the video is ended with her but this time she has one candle on her cake and one person by her side, this could imply the candles represents the amount of people who care about her, at the end only one person… she also blows out the candle in the first clip but doesn't in the ending clip.

In this scene we can clearly see the upset and sadness in her face, we can also see how much she is lacking on sleep due to her bags under her eyes.

Camera • From this clip here we can see that the

camera angle is a close up to show her facial expressions. In all the clips the camera is in the same place so we can see her emotions on her face. It starts off from happiness then worry now fear and then ends with sadness, however she feels many more emotions through out the other clips. The main camera angles are Eye level/ low level and Static on a tripod, hand held.

Page 7: A second a day

CameraFrom the camera angle we can see everything around her, they use a specific wide lens to show us everything happening around her. So as we see from the screenshot her mother is engaged into the news that’s basically giving a warning to everyone however she is completely unaware. From this screenshot we can clearly see that she isn’t been shown any attention, she shows a painting to her dad and her dad removes the painting out of the way to carry on watching what's more important (the news). Even though her dads engaged into the news she still unaware of her surrounding.

soundOn the right side we have the start of the video and the left side is where the video ends. On both side "make a wish" is said, the wish from the start is most likely different to the wish at the end as her life has completely changed. They add subtitle so we can clearly recognize that the people around her asks her to make a wish in both scenes start and finish. In this specific scene we can see her dad

listening to the radio, things are getting out of hand. However she is still unaware of the situation as her parents protect her without telling her what's really happening. The background is her father listening to the radio even though we can see that we can also hear what's happening. so in this scene sound is really important as we can hear whats going on instead of seeing.

soundThrough out the video we can clearly see the change in the scene around here, we can also hear and experiencing everything she's experiencing. In many scenes we hear her speak and express herself in happiness however when things change we don’t hear her sadness we can only see the facial expression. Maybe the happiness includes her being verbal and sadness doesn't include that.

Editing

• Fading in and out • Logo and hashtag • First shot 2-3 seconds rest

– 1 second, cutting rate • Jump cuts/ matched cuts

The main edits in this short video is repetitive cuts. Also at the end a lot of fading is used, fading in the slogans and slowly fading out the video to a white background. This is done so we can take a couple seconds and feel the young girls pain and sadness.
