A satisfed employee is a productive employee! Right?

We have heard time and again people say that a satisfed employee is a productiveemployee, but in my opinion, this statement is not necessarily true.

Workorce productivity is the amount o goods and services thata worker produces in a given amount o time. It is one o several typeso productivity that economists measure. Workorce productivity can bemeasured or a frm, a process, an industry, or a country. It is oten reerredto as labor productivity.

Workorce productivity depends on the amount o time an individual isphysically present at a job and also the degree to which he or she is“mentally present” or eciently unctioning while present at a job.!ompanies must address both o these issues in order to maintain highworker productivity, and this may occur through a variety o strategies thatocus on employee satisaction, health, and morale.

"mployee satisaction or job satisaction is, #uite simply, how content orsatisfed employees are with their jobs. "mployee satisaction is typicallymeasured using an employee satisaction survey. $hese surveys addresstopics such as compensation, workload, perceptions o management,%e&ibility, teamwork, resources, etc. $hese things are all important tocompanies who want to keep their employees happy and reduce turnover, but employee satisaction is only a part o the overall solution. In act, orsome organi'ations, satisfed employees are people the organi'ation mightbe better o( without.

    !oming back to the topic,

$he problem with employee satisaction is that it does not ocus on thethings that are important to your most talented sta(. ) happy or contentemployee might be #uite satisfed with a job that re#uires very little e(ort. $his employee might be perectly content doing the bare minimum re#uiredto keep his or her job. $hese employees are likely *very satisfed* with their jobs. $hey are unlikely to leave the company, but they are not necessarilyadding value.

+roductivity can be measured by the number o hours worked and number o people employed but satisaction cannot be measured easily. $here areinstruments but they do not necessarily tap the level o satisaction.

!oncluding, a satisfed employee will need the motivation to do the rightthings, i he or she is not motivated to make things happen, the productivitywill su(er. "mployee satisaction is not the sole reason or productivity.
