"The paper describes the Synthetic Data Vault (SDV), a system that builds machine learning models out of real databases in order to create artificial, or synthetic, data. The algorithm, called "recursive conditional parameter aggregation," exploits the hierarchical organization of data common to all databases. For example, it can take a customer-transactions table and form a multivariate model for each customer based on his or her transactionThis model captures correlations between multiple fields within those transactions— for example, the purchase amount and type, the time at which the transaction took place, and so on. After the algorithm has modelled and assembled parameters for each customer, it can then form a multivariate model of the these parameters themselves, and recursively model the entire database. Once a model is learned, i t can syn thes i ze an en t i r e da tabase , fi l l ed w i t h a r t i fi c i a l da ta .

After building the SDV, the team used it to generate synthetic data for five different publicly available datasets. They then hired 39 freelance data scientists, working in four groups, to develop predictive models as part of a crowd-sourced experiment. The question they wanted to answer was: "Is there any difference between the work of data scientists given synthesized data, and those with access to real data?" To test this, one group was given the original data sets, while the other three were given the synthetic versions. Each group used their data to solve a predictive modelling problem, eventually conducting 15 tests across 5 dataset. In the end, when their solutions were compared, those generated by the group using real data and those generated by the groups using synthetic data displayed no significant performance difference in 11 out of the 15 t e s t s ( 7 0 p e r c e n t o f t h e t i m e ) .

OUTCOME & IMPACT

These results suggest that synthetic data can successful ly replace real data in software writing and testing — meaning that data scientists can use it to overcome a massive barrier to entry. "Using synthetic data gets rid of the 'privacy bottleneck' — so work can get started," says Veeramachaneni.

“IT” IS NEW

Google is planning a major overhaul of its Chrome and Android operating system to work on many more devices. The so called ANDROMEDA OS will also power a new kind of laptop built by Google. The computer is expected to be launched by 2017 to mark the show off of Google's vision for the future of chrome books. The laptop is said to work as both a tablet and traditional laptop and have a lot of power

Earlier this month, Google increased the maximum size limit for attachments with incoming emails in Gmail. Until now, Gmail only supported attachments totalling 25MB in a single email. Any attachments more than that size were saved in Google Drive and then shared with recipients. But now, Google has doubled up the attachment size capacity from 25MB to 50MB, for all incoming emails. This means that Gmail users can now receive attachments up to 50MB in size from non-Gmail users. However, the maximum size limit for attachments with outgoing attachments is still 25MB.

PIXEL 3' from Google Google launches new Android app for kids under 13 years of age

If you have a kid under-13 and wish to introduce him or her to Google, the company has just built an Android based application for you available on google playstore. With the 'Family Link' app, parents in the US can create Google account for their kids -- which is like their ownaccount -- where parents can manage the apps their kids can use, keep an eye on screen time and set bedtime on the kids' devices, the company announced on Thursday. Here's how it works concerning your children safety:"First, your kid will need a new device that runs Android Nougat (7.0) or higher. Then, download Family Link onto your device and create a Google Account for them through the app. Finally, sign them into their new device," posted Pavni Diwanji, Vice President, Engineering, at Google.

You can then use 'Family Link' to manage the apps yourkid can use, approve or block the apps your kid wants todownload from the Google Play Store and see how much time your kid spends on their favourite apps with weekly or monthly activity reports.Parents can remotely lock kids' devices when it's time to play, study or sleep.

Now you can stream video attachments in Gmail

Google has rolled out an update for its Gmail email service, which is aimed at making watching video attachments easier and more convenient for users. As part of the update, Gmail (for web) now allows video attachments to be streamed directly, without download. When an email contains a video attachment, users will see a thumbnail of the video, along with an option to directly stream it. .

This new feature will be rolled out to all Gmail users within a short time.

Attention Students

Voice “IT”"While we have a vibrant startup sector, the last few months have exposed the fragile nature of startups, many of them people related, others related to financial and business models. It is the responsibility of all of us in the ecosystem to see how our entrepreneurs and companies, both from a value system and leadership point of view, become robust and build sustainable business models. This is where we can learn a lot from the earlier generations like TCS, Infosys, Wipro on how to think long-term, develop .
