a. In your Journal list at least 5 observations of your rock (for example texture, color, grain size, shape).

b. Write down if you think it is a Sedimentary, Igneous, or Metamorphic rock.

Step 1: Rock Observations

c. Go around the circle and have each person share: (1) descriptions of their rock(2) what type of rock you may have and WHY!!

d. As a group, put your rocks into 3 piles (Igneous, Sedimentary,

Metamorphic) in the center of your circle based on your characterizations & descriptions

*Ask your teacher to come by and check your rocks

In your group, sit in a circle. Each person selects 1 rock sample

- Open your rock cycle and place it on the ground

- Open your envelope and pass out materials to each team member

- Place the cards on the rock cycle where you think they should go
