By combining your time and talent, your very own a homemade blanket can make a difference in the life of a child. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Project Linus have teamed up to provide blankets to children who have experienced a recent trauma. From the sudden death of a parent to displacement from a fire, the District Attorney’s Office encounters children each week who would benefit from the comfort of a blanket. Research has shown that the softness and warmth of a blanket can help children cope with distress. To learn more about the need for blankets & how you can help support this partnership, stop by the Senior Center to visit with District Attorney Ryan and representatives of Project Linus. ASK THE NURSE
I am certainly not a teenager and yet I am breaking out. I thought I gave up Clearasil years ago. What’s going on?
Acne isn’t just for teens. Many folk have it as adults. There are many reasons you can break out as an adult. Stress or changes in your hormone levels, like menopause or switching or stopping birth control pills are two possibilities.
Women over 60 who are still going through menopause are most at risk for developing acne. According to Women’s Health.gov, many women continue to take birth control pills until they are completely past the menopausal stage and often break out when they no longer ingest the hormones present in the medication. The hormonal shifts in women over 60 often serve to clear up acne in some, while others can experience new breakouts as they adjust to their new levels of hormone production.
Various medications can cause acne. Drugs used to treat depression and stress often are the culprits, while some steroids used to treat arthritis may also lead to acne breakouts. Older women who are concerned about the sudden onset of acne may 7*+0'0,'3,+)590'*'62.<*0,9,1()0'0,'829-'082<'/15.2'out why their acne is happening. In some cases, it could indicate an underlying medical condition.
A good daily skin care routine is very important. 1) Wash your face no more than twice a day. 2) Use cool or warm water and a gentle cleanser. 3) Use your hands or a baby washcloth, it’s gentler that a regular one. 4) Pat, don’t rub your skin dry.
And now Dear Reader, lets break one of those myths. Chocolate does not cause acne! Time for that cup of tea and a small piece of chocolate cake.
Peg Drummey, Stoneham Board of Health Nurse, answers your questions on health. To submit a question, check at the front desk or email [email protected].
MVES's Referral & Information Service is beginning !"#$%&'(")*+,(%"-./(0$($%,(1,#$,.2 In March, staff will be here from 10am to noon on Thursday, 4/13.

ART MATTERS: AMERICAN ART PART II - (1900-1950)The center of the art world has
always been Europe, and American artists have, by necessity,
mostly followed those evolutions. The American independent spirit pushed the boundaries of acceptable traditions, and in the early part of the 20th century Americans begin to develop their own unique voice; the Ash Can School, the flowering of photography, and the consciousness of Social Realism were just some of the new developments that reflected the history of those times. Join us for a look at how American Art grew from the baby in the back seat to an adolescent growing, experimenting, gaining attention and earning respect. Tuesday, April 4th at 1PM
