We will need to discuss how to assign plots, coordinate watering, etc. It may be possible to get the water meter on the property turned over to the association. The gardeners could split the cost of the water bill or if there's enough participation, the association may be able to cover it. Please email [email protected] if you're interested and we'll plan a meeting to get it rolling.

Spring Fling

The Fox Hills annual Spring Fling took place on Saturday, April 16th. We had a great turnout this year with over 60 Fox Hills’ residents, big and small, partaking in on the festivities. The Fling began with the traditional egg hunt with over 900 eggs that were quickly gathered by the hunters carrying baskets of all shapes and sizes. As soon as the Easter bunny made it into the park, he was swarmed by kids who wanted their picture taken with him.

There were crafts and games and the always popular bouncy house. We also had a kickball game which the older kids seemed to enjoy. We finished the day off with a hot dog cookout and yummy side dishes brought by several of our neighbors.

A big thank you goes out to all of the great volunteers who helped make this Fox Hills tradition such a great success!! I hope that everyone who attended had a lot of fun and we’ll see you next year!

The sun was shining and the children and adults showed up on Monday morning July 4th to celebrate the annual 4th of July bike parade and celebration. The parade kicked off down Fox Hills Drive led by our very patriotic grand marshal, John Scheve, driving his vintage MG convertible. John was accompanied by his son Jason, who grew up in Fox Hills. As they made their way to Jenkins Park, neighbors came out to show their spirit by waving flags and clapping to James Brown’s Living in America. The children decorated their bikes and strollers and even dressed up in festive costumes and face paint. Each child showed such great spirit that everyone received a prize!

Prizes were also awarded for the infamous watermelon seed spitting contest, dominated by the father and son team of David (40+) and

Ethan (8) Pallas. Apparently, watermelon seed spitting skills are genetic.

A special thanks to the FHHA for supplying the watermelon, popsicles, cookies, drinks and prizes. And a special thanks to everyone who helped out in any way. We hope to see more of you next year!

This past June my son, Michael Paulk, attended Space Academy in Huntsville, AL. He spent one week training in Space and Aviation programs, and I may say that he had an experience that was out of this world!

Here is just a brief description of what Michael trained on: He practiced exercises such as tumbling and spinning in a Mult-Axis Trainer, float on air in the 5-Degrees of Freedom Chair. Walk like Apollo astronauts in the 1/16th Gravity chair. Performed scientific experiments focusing on polymers and soil samples from Earth, Mars, and the moon. He was a Mission Specialist which entailed to walk "in space" to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. He slept in a Space Habitat with 6 other teammates.

In addition, he learned air-to-air and air-to-ground fighter tactics in an F/A-18 Super Hornet Simulator. He participated in a Top-Gun competition, he got a taste of what is like to be part of a Navy Seal Team on a search and rescue mission. He trained in a simulated emergency water landing and escape. Above is a picture of Michael with real life astronaut Robert "Hoot" Gibson who was a former Space Shuttle Commander.

Michael Paulk and Astronaut Hoot Gibson

on June 10th, we welcomed home our own Butler Day from a tour in Afghanistan. He was overseas from october until early June.

Butler enjoys calling himself the "First Husband" (since I'm President of the Home-owners Association). Butler is also the brother of Beth Day, brother-in-law of Dan Lawson and uncle of Warren and Tom Lawson, who also live in Fox Hills.

Butler is in the Navy reserves and works in Public Affairs. He joined the Navy when he was 18 to study photography and completed 5 years of service. He joined the Navy reserves in 2001 after 9-11 and made Chief in 2009. Below is a photo from the Atlanta airport when we welcomed Butler home. Everyone was all smiles!
