A grand piano recital
A PIANO BY CANDLE LIGHT
with the Chilean-Canadian pianist
Alejandra Cifuentes Diaz
A concert placed under the seal of nobility, of dignity, of grace and of wonderment!
----------------
THE GREATEST ROMATIC MASTERPIECES
by ... Pachelbel, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt and Paganini!
Come and listen to beauty!
The piano has never sounded as angelic and glorious as it will on that evening! Under the fairy-
like fingers of the great Chilean-Canadian pianist Alejandra Cifuentes Diaz, masterpieces, and
nothing but masterpieces, will come to life before you … in a church illuminated solely by
candles! Imagine the ambiance, the atmosphere!
Pachelbel’s Canon, so rarely heard on the piano, will open the evening in a soothing manner, an
evening which will be placed under the sign of charm, of elegance and of romanticism. Then,
another marvel: Mozart’s Fantasy, K. 397! One of his most radiant works! It will be followed by
a work composed by Mozart in his youth: the first movement of the sonata
K.545, and then, as the crowning moment of this Mozart bloc, the famous ... Turkish March ...
ecstasy assured!
Next will come the unforgettable Chopin with his best known work: Tristesse (Sadness - Etude
opus 10, no. 3). According to Chopin himself, it is his most successful work for piano! And then
will come ... a grand moment ... the celebrated Marche funèbre (Funeral March), which was
played during Chopin’s own funeral. To conclude the Chopin bloc … his very famous and well
loved Fantaisie-impromptue opus 66!
To conclude the first part … the spectacular music of Beethoven! Two immortal successes: Für
Élise and the third movement of his 17th sonata for piano, called "Tempest"!
The second part will open with Franz Schubert’s very first masterpiece, composed at the age of
17 years: Margaret at the spinning wheel! Brilliant! Then the second movement of the sonata
D.959, a great work of Schubert! And then, still by Schubert, a work that deserves to be better
known ... Hungarian Melody D. 817.
Then a work, the only one in the program, of the great Johann Sebastien Bach, a marvellous
surprise for the public!
The concert will continue with Paganini’s Etude no. 6! Veritable fireworks by the Italian
composer!
It is the most romantic of the romantics that will conclude this evening: Franz Liszt! First you
will hear Consolation no. 3, a work of rare beauty, and then his very beautiul work Liebestraum
(Love Dream) will follow. This extraordinary musical evening will be concluded with his
fascinating Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2, a piece of deeply moving grandeur!
That is what the audience of this concert is invited to, a musical evening with the seal of
grandeur, of nobility and of enchantment!
This concert will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 8:00 P.M. in the Dominion Chalmers
